Sci-fi Creations Volume 1 - Modeling the MechBot
Tutorial Details
Create a Manga style Mech based on one of Hikaru Hayashi's works. The modeling series for this Mech covers basic modeling techniques to get you up an running with this popular style. Step by step methods using a combination of tools and an optimized workflow will help take the edge off of the learning curve.
We work off reference sketches and create the different pieces of armour, gradually building up more detail as we move along. We use SubPatch modeling techniques to create nicely curved shapes and a model with clean geometry suitable for rigging. In addition to Lightwave native tools we demonstrate some useful plug-ins like vertibevel that can help improve your modeling work.
The modeling series is complete. More parts are also being added to cover the UV layout and texturing of the Mech, where we paint rusty metal textures in Photoshop.
