Create a spooky holiday scene with a skull, jack-o-lantern and tombstones. This fun tutorial covers modeling, lighting, procedural texturing and rendering.
We start off in Modeler and build our environment with a brick wall, grass and some rocks to break up the scene. We also create the different objects; headstones, pumpkin, skull and a little bug working with polygon and subpatch modeling techniques in Lightwave. The tree in this scene is made by using the plug-in tree cage which can be found here.
We then continue to improve our objects and add detail through texturing, roughing up surfaces with bump maps and using different procedural noise textures to get randomness in the grass and rocks. The main focus of this tutorial is on lighting and how to get that ghost like feel of night time illumination. Using different light types as well as global illumination for the scene you’ll see how to use negative lights to suck light out of certain areas, adjust fall off and light colors for the right balance and create dark shadowy areas with the right contrast.
Learn easy modeling techniques and effective lighting and texturing methods to create some Halloween eye candy in the Tim Burton style.
