ArchViz Interiors Volume 2 - Texturing and Lighting
Tutorial Details
This is an amazing tutorial by David Mitchell on how to achieve photorealism when rendering an interior scene in Lightwave. We cover the complete texturing and lighting process step by step and focus on the little details which will take your work to the next level. Techniques shown in this tutorial will teach you a good workflow in the field of architectural visualizations and help you create professional looking shots for your clients in this competitive industry.
The first thing we do is prepare a generic light rig for creating our textures under while still allowing for quick render times. We create a number of architectural materials for the different surfaces like polished and painted wood, metals and tinted frosted glass. Here we focus on getting a high level of realism into our textures with subtle bump mapping, procedural texturing techniques and blurring reflections. We also adjust the model to avoid hard edges and work on the trims, doors and window frames.
With our main textures created we move onto creating the final light set up for the scene, where we look at how to prevent blown out areas in the lighting, light through glass and render with radiosity. We work with light colors and gradients to get a well balanced scene and create soft realistic shadows. These parts are all about attention to detail and how to push your renders to the next level. After we've created our radiosity render we continue with setting up bounce lights throughout the scene to fake the radiosity which makes for massively reduced rendering times before finally we render out to HDR for maximum exposure control.
This is the second volume in our series ArchViz Interiors in Lightwave and follows ArchViz Interiors Volume 1 - Modeling and Layout. The full scene files are included with this tutorial should you be interested only in texturing, lighting and rendering for interiors.
