This tutorial takes the photoreal term seriously so if you're into lighting and rendering this is really something for you! It was created by David Mitchell before he made The Product Shot which quickly became one of the most popular things on the site.
The eleven hour long series of videos presented here make for a more in-depth study of different lighting techniques and how to approach the task of reproducing realistic real world lighting scenarios in CG applications. It will teach you a lot on how to achieve photorealistic renders in Lightwave and you will learn the modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering and observational skills needed to take your work to the next level.
We focus on how to create the specific scene working from a single photographic reference and start off with the modeling creating the highly detailed paintbrushes and various bottles. Using his UV mapping and texture painting skills David builds up layers of detail and throughout this process you’ll learn tons of useful methods for texturing while working with procedurals, image maps and gradients.
From there we set up a number of different lights and tweak our materials to simulate a real world lighting scenario. You will learn the basics of rendering with radiosity and then move on to studying different methods of faking this lighting effect.
The final rendered images from this tutorial that you can see on the page are rendered in fprime without radiosity. A camera pan of the result produced can be found here.
