Awww... go on Techi. Tell us your problems ... ;)

Techi 16-05-2004 02:49 PM

ok...

i wnat to render a company logo in glass.

the problem it i want it to be text only and a transparent gif. so i need to make it seem like glass when i put it into the web page.

i didnt want to post the problem because i have other things to try (i.e. using web image as a bg)

more detail on the current render (http://www.day8.co.uk) site dosnt do anything we just bought the domain while we could ;)

but atm im working on the pirate.

The problem you have is not rendering glass, but that transparent GIFs (IIRC) don't support variable transparency. Therefore, all you have for that is what effecitively amounts to a clip map.

To be honest, I'd be tempted to simply render the whole thing (logo and background) in Lightwave and just upload that as an image to your site instead of simply doing the logo...

yep thats what my i.e. meant.

as i said there are still options left to explore, the problem with doing this, is i have to see what happens on high and low res browsers

voices3d 17-05-2004 09:42 PM

totaly wounderful. I will remember to write this down on my list to santa. :D the scene looks awsome, and the render is grovey

Thanks Voices3D.

Techi - excuse my ignorance but what about 24-bit PNG? does that not support variable transparency? I don't know but I use them all the time in web images.

Techi 18-05-2004 08:06 AM

lol forget my problem ...

still think this scene looks cool.

did you use the tobasco tut for the box?

Roux 18-05-2004 12:22 PM

Techi -
No I completely forgot it was there [Redface].
Basically, I flattened the box and scanned the two sides of the flat pack. Put them together in photoshop. The I simply created my mesh using that as the background - flat. UV mapped flat and then folded the sides to make the box.

Roux 30-06-2004 12:43 PM

Hi and thanks for the comments.

Neo_rangeruk : The tut I think is on Philips site liquidarts.de? or you can find it on lightwave http://members.shaw.ca/lightwavetutorials/
Look for the Jack Daniels tutorial.

Voices3d : Glad you like it and I hope it helps.

Cheers,
Roux
