Tryly a mountain to climb, just made my frst walkcycles in LW yesterday, about facemorphs nor audioimporting to LW I know nothing. At least I need audiofile in LW for sync. For this I would need a new character too. Count me in as a dummy noobie. Is all rendering to be done in LW?

Doesn't necessarily have to be, I suppose. How else would you do it?

Noratio 05-07-2004 07:36 PM

I've got ready rigged characters in Motion Sudio/ Truespace, bought LW8 only two monts ago, and been busy that time. My goal would do all in LW but in case of deadline rush would working face rigs with sliders and familiar audio sollution would help a lot...back to storyboarding and scetching.

mtmckinley 05-07-2004 10:17 PM

hmm, I suppose that should be ok.

colto 06-07-2004 04:48 AM

One more quick question Mike. Do u consider Motion Designer work to be animation or would that be a waste of time?

mtmckinley 06-07-2004 12:42 PM

what is motion designer?

Zeeman 06-07-2004 01:29 PM

its a hard and soft body, cloth simulation thingy that comes with lightwave. It can give animations really amazing effects, like clothes for the characters moving realistically.

Zeeman 06-07-2004 01:29 PM

oh but it might take a while

mtmckinley 06-07-2004 03:16 PM

I suppose that would be ok, but the actual movement of the character(s) should be done by you.

colto 06-07-2004 04:55 PM

Ok, Thanks!

colto 07-07-2004 05:41 AM

I know it seems like I am asking questions like crazy here but I got one more for ya. Does our animation have to be the same length as the sound file or can we make it a littlelonger? Cuz I was wondering if I could have my characters walk into the scene rather then the animation just kinda start with 2 people talking to each other out of the middle of nowhere.

mtmckinley 07-07-2004 12:04 PM

I would prefer they not be too much longer, but I guess it's ok.

colto 07-07-2004 05:25 PM

OK thanks it will probably only be a couple seconds longer.

colto 09-07-2004 06:24 PM

Out of curiosity, what is the grand prize this time?

mtmckinley 09-07-2004 09:22 PM

same. A LW book of your choice with the option of a SimplyMaya DVD or first pick of a future SLW DVD.

colto 09-07-2004 11:59 PM

Awesome! Now that is a prize I need. Now all I have to do is make an awesome animation, try and beat out a bunch of fellow animators, and get it all done in time. Definately easier said that done, but fortunately I have time on my side. Good luck everyone!

mtmckinley 12-07-2004 06:28 PM

I've replaced the attachment in the first post with newly encoded wav files. Apparantly, the old ones were not working in Maya. I do not know if they also didn't work in LW, but these new ones do work in Maya, so hopefully they'll work in LW as well.

I'm considering extending this challenge to 2 months to make up for this over-sight. I'll let you know.

puppet 12-07-2004 07:47 PM

i posted a fixed version on page 3 of this thread after it happened to me too :)

colto 12-07-2004 10:34 PM

I would vote no to extending the competition to 2 months b/c many people here didn't seem to like the idea of doing animation and although I personally enjoy it I don't think it would be fair to the others to make them wait another month. But this is Mike's call. Leave a message on your opinion!

Zeeman 12-07-2004 10:43 PM

I think keep this one for only a month. make way for something new.

kumar 13-07-2004 02:26 AM

Hmm,,, i dont know... but if it boils down to 1 month then i am ok with that also,,, hmm,, seems now i can work under pressure... Hehe

kumar 13-07-2004 02:29 AM

Ok,,, think here is a good resource for lip sync.... A thumbs up from me anyway...

Oh ya almost forgot... Magpie and Magpie Pro,,,, have free versions you can use.... And here is their website...

MeanPi2 14-07-2004 09:09 AM

One month is fine, two months is better. Probably won't finish either way so could care less. Heh.

mtmckinley 14-07-2004 12:29 PM

Staying with 1 month. Carry on. :)

colto 17-07-2004 06:47 AM

Nice, I can't wait for next month's challenge. I am just hoping that it doesn't involve modeling anything organic or human b/c we have done those for like 3 straight months and I'm ready for a change. Maybe vehicles or landscapes?

Sharp 19-07-2004 10:29 PM

yea me to :) although im not bothered what it is i just hope is modeling, i carnt animate and dont yet want to bother learning i just see it as the boring part to do in the picture although it is very nessecary i havent got goodish at modeling yet.

chrispo 27-07-2004 06:13 PM

I just read through all your posts guys! Why are you all so down in the mouth about this?! I made my 10 min toon all in lightwave 7.5a and had no problems - you can import sound using the scene tab, and its shows all the sound peaks for where to add in the morphs?

LW can do real cool things when it comes to animation. mtmckinley - this was a great idea and I got really excited to see it, I'd like this to come up more often - its a learning curve for all of us, we cant just model all the time and render. Animation is a big part of lw, so why dont we all stretch ourselves.

I spent the last 7 months on my toon and learned so much with lightwave. Good call.

- btw all the entries are magic!!!!

Mike,

puppet 31-07-2004 11:57 AM

All times are GMT. The time now is 12:59 PM.

I think whole world should live by my clock and let me adjust it every now and then. Also Rewind/Fastforward options included too.

Ain't got time to render anymore, guests are coming, I'll just try to make my entry with references.

puppet 31-07-2004 12:13 PM

lol, i ment i didnt know the exact time the challenge ended :)

mtmckinley 31-07-2004 02:07 PM

Well, you guys can follow your own clocks if you'd like. By my reckoning, at the time of this post, it's 9:10 am, so still have the rest of the day. :)

Get those entries in!
