The texture is as good as the model and i am really impressed.
We'll see if any of the other simply site participants can beat this one, i love it when lightwave users beat maya users, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, i am rooting for ya to take out the top prize! This was patch modelled right? what was your method? Splines? did you have a particular reference that you are working from? Sry about all the questions i am just intrigued. And i think speedy is onto something with the pro division for competitions. (for the purpose of clarity, the phrase " i am rooting for ya" is an australian colloquelism meaning i am supporting you. and for anybody who doesn't know colloquelism means local slang) |
that is one heck of a bump map. how long did it take. That grand prize is sitting there waiting for ya dude! Simply AMAZING!:)

Oz,
this is not spline modeling, I started with one poly then cut, extend, drag.... (--->pic attached) I have no particular reference, not "one" dino in fact, just browsed google for dino pics.... |
Wow,,, really amazing.
|
looking good are you useing a normal / displacement map made in z brush because the brush style looks like the brush's from zbrush :)
very nice work |
 it looks better everytime i see it.
i think the size of ur scales seem fine, i wud keep them the same but i suppose u cud try a dif size jsut 2 test. u sure have won this comp. but i wanted 2 know - ur dino looks like a raptor so far, how are u goin 2 make it ur own creation wot i mean is in the rules it sez create a dinoaur but the catch was 2 make a dino up. love ur work. :) a sure winner. glad i entered as a noob. ;) |
Thx all,
Sharp : No displacement for the moment, the bump mas is created in photoshop using some seamless textures and pinting with my tablet... I think I could try ZBrush, nut I don't have it... and don't really need it for the moment (maybe when I ll have too much money... :p ) S2-Speedy : Yes the scale are a little bit small, but it was just to test some textures and toshop layering processes... the real texture will come when model will be done! Ur right, my model is inspired by raptor, but is much bigger... as u can see with the relation size between eyes and head... I started modelling without any references, then as it was taking shape I started browsing google-image search, and took inspiration. I don't want to make a special flying horned version of a raptor, just make a dinosaur that could have existed... |
ohh cool. i fort u might change stuff. i was jsut interested 2 find out wot the final thing might look like . :) thnks
|
wow nice work of it then just a bump outa photoshop. :)
|
sweet
Thats a great model and even better texture:tup: even if it was some test textures, one question does the tablet really help when it comes to texturing?
once again great model. Dae:) |
any updates yet?? cant wait to see the rest of your model :D
|
Looking cool. After seeing this, I think I should enter over at SM ;)
|
heh, that wouldn't change anything. All the sites compete together. :) You just gotta push yourselves!

update... didn't have lot of time these days... body under construction...
|
Wow really nice modelling,,, care to explain the texturing part.... Kind of reminds me of the organic texturing a raptor over at newtek's site... Is it UV? if so any shots of it?
Thanks,,, i think you might just have this in the bag. |

The UV was just a basic X-axis planar one...
update : currently working on legs, almost finished, just the feet to do... but lots of poly here! :o Anyway, more to come!!! |
amazin :D cant wait 2 see it finshed.
|
Out of interest what is the poly count? Mine is about 2500 for the body and over 16000 for the head.
|
Wow, Oz! 16k for the head!?!
mine is : - 4750 for the "skin" (head is around 2k poly) - 6700 for claw, teeth, eyeballs |
looks really good, have no critic on this one
|
ur showing mad skills so far dude! Keep it up!

Feet done, starting arms... See Ya!
|
great progress mate. Looks awesome.
|
looking good man. but id make the arms a bit fatter they seem a little on the thin side other than that it looks great ;)
|
good job on the feet Cyroz! By the looks of it, its a raptor... but i guess the body is a little big and/or fat for that type of dino. But since this is a create ur own dino contest, its alright. And yea, the arms need to be tweaked a little.:)
|
really realy good!!! but i think his arms are to small!!! looks little stupid at the moment!!! for the rest its TOP!!!
|
Yeah, I totally agree with ya mates!
Actually I did this post waiting for such replies as I didn't know if I'd go with little ridiculous arms (as Trex Alosaur...) or bigger ones! Thx! |

Here is a render test with a basic skeleton to see how it deforms... and I'm pretty happy with the result.
Actually I work on the hands but hesiate with the style to go. To do : rework the teeth, a little bigger could be cool.. See ya! |
Looks really good, seems to deform quite well, well done.
Not to sure if i like the fuzzy effect but intrigued as to how you made it :) |
Nice render - just wondering about the crease under the arm area and whether or not its been put there intentionally?
|
the fuzzy effect might just be the jpg compression. its looking good though
|
amazing dude! it's gonna be a killer with the textures on!!!
|
The fuzzy effect is just some Virtual Darkroom! ;)
|
it looks very good cyroz!!!! could you please post a screenshot of the skelegons??? i wonder how you did rig his tail!!!
thank you!! |

Thx,
I'm sorry I didn't had time these days to work on it, so sorry too for the late reply.. Bullet, the skeleton is really basic... anyway here is a pic... |
hmmm.... interesting.;) Although its a fairly basic setup, it seems to work amazingly! good job CyroZ!!!:)
|
very simply skelegon you did there!!! it works good though :)

That's right, simple....... but effective!!
Let's get some update here, after been talk about Zbrush a lot of time, I decided to give it a try, and I wanna say this app is simply wonderfull... I don't have it, I went to see a friend of mine who does... so I still got some problem with texture and fixing the map (and with the interface!)...but this session of ZBrushing was really a surprise... |
WOW... what version of Zbrush was this... methinks I may have to look into this.. looks awsome cyroz!!:)
|
that looks like version 2 to me but if it isn't just tell your friend to get the free upgrade plenty new tools in it to play around with glad someone else has come across to the dark side of texture and displacement maps just be sure that when you bring the model back into lightwave you flip any maps vertically or it gets messed up if you need any ZBRUSH to lightwave help just give me a shout
thanks Rob |
