Hiraghm 19-03-2005 05:59 PM

Yeah, that's really impressive. I keep picturing a dog with his head cocked looking on, puzzled...

HAHA! Maybe I could add that. Just kiddin'. Thanks for the comments guys.

Krull 19-03-2005 07:20 PM

I like the thing that attaches to the fire hydrant.... the only thing that throws me off is the hooze that connect to it.. it's that cirular things on it, reminds me of matrix sentinels.... but that's just my opinion.

colto 19-03-2005 07:26 PM

yeah. I added those to make the hose look "stronger" as in strong enough to support the weight of the scout. As you can see the scout has nothing to keep it off of the ground. And since robots can't just magically hover I decided to make the hose itself very strong and flexible so as to keep the scout off of the ground. I will also add either thrusters or fans to the scout to give him a way to move around. Which sounds better to you guys? fans or jet-thrusters?

surfer14 19-03-2005 07:47 PM

both seem like good ideas but i like the fan one better because jet thrusters seems too fast. OR you can make the hose sort of like a projectile that your main bot shoots out at the
fire- hydrants. then the scouts or whatever you call them just cling onto the fire-hydrant.
 maybe i said too much or my thoughts are getting U confffoooooosdddddd.......JUST thinking my mind but hehe maybe you like the idea OR :( maybe not...????????????????????????

colto 19-03-2005 07:55 PM

I understand what you are saying and I will consider it. I was leaning towards the fan idea for the same reason. Thanks for the input!

surfer14 19-03-2005 08:00 PM

HEY COLTO DON'T YOU HAVE ANY CONCEPT DRAWINGS?
if so i would like to see some.....

 PLEASE?????????????????????????

colto 19-03-2005 08:44 PM

My scanner broke so I was unable to load my drawings. So I did my best to describe in words. Hence those lengthy posts in the beginning. Maybe if I can get someone to take a picture with a digital camera I could load them.

surfer14 19-03-2005 08:46 PM

:D oh ok....IWAS WONDERING WHY YOU WERE WRITING SO MUCH ...lol........:p.......thats kool.....doesn't matter anyway....................ONE QUESTION THOUGH.........
how long have you been workign with lightwave?

colto 19-03-2005 08:50 PM

hmm, started in 8th grade and have used it off and on for almost 2 years, so really about 8 months of actual experience.

surfer14 19-03-2005 08:52 PM

waoh what grade you in now???? you seem like one of those younger artists...OOppps hope i am not wasting valueable space in your thread...........................i started in 7th or 6th grade in MAYA

colto 19-03-2005 08:55 PM

Yeah, I'm in 10th grade now. I started doing web pages in 5th grade, video games with 3D GameStudio from 6th to 8th, and LightWave since then. Your not wasting space. I enjoy the conversation.

surfer14 19-03-2005 08:59 PM

 man your are a fast responder i wish everyone else was like you............the only thing i hate about being a young artist is that you always have to many things to do like homework!..................i hate homework !!!!and FOR A NEWBIE YOU ARE AWSOME!!
i have never seen any noob as good as you. honestly.

colto 19-03-2005 09:01 PM

Wow thanks. Yeah homework really kills me. And I am in ALOT of extra-curricular activities which limit my lightwave time. But I hope to do this for a living so I keep persistant at it. BTW what grade are you in?

colto 19-03-2005 09:04 PM

O yeah and what is your name at SM?

surfer14 19-03-2005 09:10 PM

ok i am not big on abbreviations and i still havent picked up the whole internet lingo thingy so what does BTW mean???
i am in 9th and my name in SM is "mayakid14"
havent got any new post in my comp thread because i havent had time because of YOU KNOW WHAT:confused: HOMEWORK
but i am working now on a couple more add ons and maybe you would like to see my thread http://forum.simplymaya.com/showthre...5&pagenumber=2

colto 19-03-2005 09:17 PM

BTW means " by the way". I thought you might be mayakid. Good Luck!

surfer14 19-03-2005 09:21 PM

YEP THAT'S me THEKID;) good luck to you too but you might beat me anyway. but might aswell try ;) BTW
that idea that Hiraghm had with the dog i think you should try to put that in there too for FUN:D

colto 19-03-2005 09:24 PM

haha yeah I should. Also if the community wants I may end up having to enter as Normal so I may not compete against you.

surfer14 19-03-2005 09:27 PM

:bandit: if you do convert to a NORM just FOR THE DIFFICULTY, SO WILL I........................that is if my work turns out the way i want it to.

colto 19-03-2005 09:30 PM

I am only going Norm if the moderators feel that I should be placed there. I personally feel that I should be considered noob, but if I did end up winning the noob category I would compete as norm all times after.

surfer14 19-03-2005 09:31 PM

I OBJECT!!!!!!!!no i am just kidding.............well if the modifiers say so i guess you would have no choice......OH WELL.............................................: )

Here is a small update. It is the rough out of the main body. More detail to be added later. I plan on modelling both the exterior AND interior parts of my robot. This means that all the pipes will work and function correctly. I added an air compressor to the top of the main body. This is what will compress the air needed for the cannon. C & C welcome as always!

zostix 22-03-2005 01:51 AM

Looks amazing man, wondering how you place yourself in the noob class

Krull 22-03-2005 02:10 AM

Well Colto....

That looks...... Awsome..... Can't wait to see that bad boy finished

colto 22-03-2005 04:57 AM

Just got another stick of 512 MB RAM in the mail an hour ago. Yay! Now my modelling and rendering and FPRIME will go much faster. OoOoO I can't wait to use it I am so excited!

This completely irrelevant peice of news has been brought to you by colto.;) :p

Zeeman 22-03-2005 07:41 PM

holy SHIZNIT! I like it dude!

I dunno if its just me, but the body feels rather large and the legs look a little small underneath... (or maybe its just the camera angle?)

colto 22-03-2005 09:46 PM

Bah, I forgot to ask you guys if the legs looked to small. I was thinking they looked to small also. I will scale the body down so that it only goes to about halfway between the second and third leg and put the rescue pod ontop of the third leg. Thanks for the C & C!

Krull 22-03-2005 09:55 PM

I think it works, but if you want to rescale... it might look better... lets have a gander ( I hate the word gander my aunt says it all the time I think im gonna smack her next time she say's it.)

Haha, I hate that word too. I will scale it right now and post another clay render.

colto 22-03-2005 10:07 PM

Ultra quick FPRIME capture. The model will look much more scale appropriate when I add the rescue pod.
