4 any1 who is interested - here are the Textures i made in photoshop, they r basic really as i want my rhino to be cartoony.
U cant really tell the little bits of detail in the screenshot cuz its not a render, jus a lightwave screengrab. |
This is looking good.
One thing: I think the texture of the nostrils can take some more work. Maybe make a larger fall-off ? |

did a bit of work on facial espressions last nite, as texturing was gettin on my nerves a bit lol these expressions r all symetrical at the moe i shall do some Asymetrical too to help the character seem more life like.

Hey Speedy, you've got some great morphs going on there. This is the point for me that character modeling/animation really pays off. All the hard work is worth it when you can see the character "come-to-life".

:beer: Yeah looks like im the only 1 in this comp from lightwave, theres always quite a few at maya competing thou, but a few ppl drop out due too other stuff they gota do. U should jump on the challenge john (or mayb give the next 1 ago) still got till feb 10th, im really enjoyin it :P |

heres the updates - this is what my dodgeball court will look like. i dont really have much reference on how the court is meant to be layed out, most where basketball courts. this is the actual texture.

Nice. Like the red ball best. Also, on the court, I'd make the boundary lines a little thinner (say around 2/3 the width they currently are) and I'd change the court text to read 'Home team' and 'Away team' rather than 'Team 1' and 'Team 2'. Also, make all the text on the court face the same way (think having a TV camera watching the game - face all the text away from the team return benches). Also, to be honest, I'd create the court lines and text as a separate texture and then use that as an overlay - adding quite a high gloss, specular, slightly reflective texture to make it look like that shiny tape they use on real courts. Add a slight displacement and a really small fractal microbump and you should be away...

Thanks 4 the input. its funny most the things u said i thought about, like the lines, i was goin to do them thinner but i duno y i didnt i think it slipped my mind afterwards. yeah home team and away team does sound better, that 1 i didnt think of. and u make a good point bout the TV and the text all facin 1 way - ill b sure 2 make those changes. I did play around wiv the reflectiveness of the floor i made it really reflective but i wasnt happy with it, id prob need to do more tests really, this was jus a play around and to show progress. or do u mean jus the tape to b reflective n shiny? Thanks again ill look into what u said. :D |

the floor does have a slight reflection, u can see the coloured balls bein reflected although it may look like a shadow as its greyish and not the colour of the ball. I shall work on that thou later on, as I gota get back to rigging the rhino. :D Thanks. |

I havent worked on rhino 4 a while, but i did make some changes on the court. i took some screenshots too. was meant to show progress but i havnt brought them with me. ill post them when i get home :) |

here is a quick render of wot my final shot may look like.did it last nite, although i do have other ideas for different poses. still a massive WIP as was testing deformation tests, but any comments and crits welcome.

Looking good. Like the lighting. The shadows under the feet look a bit off though. I think you should also flaten the ball a little and have it dropping over either side of the horn to show that it's burst in a more classic comedic style. I like it though.

JohnD - i know the shadow looks a bit poo at the moe, its still a WIP, i jus thought i wud show a quicky, render only took bout 2-3 mins lol i jsut wanted 2 test the rig mostly, and see how the rhino looked wiv the court, the ball does have a morph to flatten it abit but mayb its not enuff - ill look into that - thanks. Ave - president? LOL i wudnt go that far mate haha, glad u like it but i hope u not jinxed me sayin i shud win, have u seen the entries over at maya? some good stuff there and then theres u wiv rocky :) its classic. shud b a good comp thou. :beer: |
Yeah, I think the ball should be squashed a lot more, and drooping over the sides as if there's absolutely no air left in it at all, just to give it the classic cartoon emphisis seein as it's such a cartoony style character.
I like it though. Are you trying out the other poses too? Can't wait to see them if you are. Just another thought I just had there - Have you rigged his ears? If you have you could use them to help show his emotion. Like in the one above he looks quite defeated and downtrodden so you could make his ears a bit more droopy and if he was surprised by something in another image they could be perked up straight in flow with the rest of his body or if he was falling or running the ears would be following up behind the rest of his body. Ignore me if you already thought of this, I just thought I'd suggest it incase you hadn't already. It could work quite well. :D |
oh johnD ur a legend lol i knew i had 2 rig the ears but sumhow i totally 4got bout them, so currently no bones in there yet. the droppy ears wud work really well wiv the sad look on his face, ur right. .:beer:
I am goin 2 pose the other ideas i have yeh, and see which works best for a final scene, i will post renders wen i have done them - probably the weekend. Thanks for the input. |

I created a new thread on simply maya called final winter challenge 2, where a couple of us have submitted our entries, I hope u don't mind, but I posted your images there also, so that you wont be disqualified for not posting in time- when you get this, just re-post your work there, and ill delete the ones I posted........
