looks awesome dude! I had every single one of those damn figures!

Warlock 279 07-06-2011 10:42 PM

That's looking really good in that render. Keep it up.

lightmod 08-06-2011 05:05 AM

Very nice work so far. Good luck!

s2-speedy 08-06-2011 09:00 AM

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the comments. The texturing is always the hardest part for me. Hopefully, with the amount of time I have left, i can really practice and try it get it right.

Cheers,

slade 08-06-2011 10:14 AM

Wowww...I like this pose...I'm curious to see the textures

Its been a while since my last post but I have been working on the turtles. I thought id show this progress, its basically my first Normal Map job. Just been learning some techniques and how to apply it. In the shot ive shown you what the turtle skin texture is like on the real toy and im trying to copy it so mine is like that.. although its plastic..it has a slight bumpy texture to it. So ignore the eyeband and the lighting in this shot, this is more of a test to get the bump texture right. I'm fairly happy with it for a first attempt but may tweek it some more. Any other comments and crits welcome. :) Cheers.

bullet1968 14-06-2011 11:19 PM

well done mate!!

cheers bullet

Mark 15-06-2011 06:12 PM

That's looking pretty cool for a first pass. Maybe modulate the bump layer a little with a slightly larger scale bump overlay and up the spec/glossiness and I think you'll have a killer match for the original.

s2-speedy 15-06-2011 06:32 PM

Thanks mark. I was thinking exactly the same thing for the next / final render. :)

Got a few days off work so I could put some time in on this in the next few days. Its not much but I thought I'd show you all a quick render of the stand that these toys come with. Each turtle comes with a stand (either a path/sidewalk or road section) that can all clip together to create a full scene. I still need to model a lampost and a fire hydron and little bits of debris.

Warlock 279 24-06-2011 12:25 AM

Looks good, especially the last texture shot of Don.

Just rigged Michaelangelo's Knunchucks and did a quick test in layout to make sure the bones move the links in the chain ok.

s2-speedy 24-06-2011 09:17 PM

Thanks warlock :)

sandman300 25-06-2011 03:16 AM

Looking cool. Are you using sss for your plastic?

SMFloris 26-06-2011 11:18 AM

I have never been a fan of the turtles, but you made him look so good ...

Your a Top-Notch Lightwaver, definitely your gonna show those Maya artists what Lightwave can do.

s2-speedy 27-06-2011 02:58 PM

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm doing my best and glad you like it :)

Quick question. I've got all 4 turtles made, rigged and textured all to stand on the platform but now im just wondering, do you think I should just have 1 chosen turtle or all 4 of them together?

lightmod 27-06-2011 04:03 PM

I think you should pose them.

sandman300 27-06-2011 04:30 PM

Did you model their heads individually or use the same head for all four?

s2-speedy 27-06-2011 05:15 PM

I am goin to pose them lightmod.. i just wasnt sure on whether to focus on 1 turtle or all 4. The heads are different variations on 1 head template. Raphaels face is more angry. Donatellos is kinda pensive. Leo is serious and michaelangelos face is kinda goofy lookin. All the bodys are the same model thou jus different shades of green. Will show an image later. :)

TowerFan 27-06-2011 10:27 PM

Show them all, imo, especially of they're different.

s2-speedy 28-06-2011 08:26 AM

Thanks for your input TowerFan - I may just do that :)

bullet1968 28-06-2011 08:57 AM

Hey mate...sorry I wasnt being an ignoprick....trying to catch up on everyone is HARD work LOL. Hey man...show em all mate....no point only showing half your fine effort!...oh and according to floris you are going to show me how its done..he he he he...seeing I cant use LW I think you win already LOL. I want to see what the lightng will do...I have let arma down thus far ( I will finish arma)...so Im curious to see the 'balls' of this software.

lol Why would I think you're being an ignoprick Bullet? I think you're many things but not an Ignoprick :D lol. Yeah I think im going to show them all seeing as I've posed them all now. I was going to show them all standing next to each other in a row on that stand i made, but I've just had an idea and may try them on a black staggered shelf kinda like the image below. Forgive the messyness, i just rushed it to show the idea. :)

Mark 28-06-2011 06:27 PM

Loving the concept there Speedy....

TowerFan 28-06-2011 07:55 PM

I really like the composition idea, Speedy. Showing them all, but not in a standard line-up kinda way. Really creative.

s2-speedy 28-06-2011 08:13 PM

Thanks fellas. jus rendering the new scene now. I wasnt sure about the line up either but ill show all renders then post one for the final entry. :)

bullet1968 28-06-2011 11:07 PM

wow good thinking my friend!! I like the idea

cheers bullet

Warlock 279 29-06-2011 07:38 PM

Speedy, I'm really liking that idea. I like how it pays bit of an homage to their comic book origins.

David 02-07-2011 06:56 PM

Just a reminder that you have until the end of tomorrow to post your final entry for the challenge in this thread

Good luck :)
Dave

Just looking back through my thread, I forgot to post the image of the actual toy, so here is an image of the toys that my models are based on next to the 3d models. Cheers.
