Krull 23-03-2005 07:25 AM

Ya, That straight up kicks ass....:)

dae 23-03-2005 11:00 AM

the rotors section, looks like it could do with some aesthetic housing.

Dae:)

colto 23-03-2005 01:20 PM

Not sure what you mean, could you explain?

dae 23-03-2005 06:51 PM

atm the scout looks like a prototype version, the bare essentials, I was just wondering are you going to add some sort of aerodynamic shell to make it look sleek.

Dae:)

voices3d 23-03-2005 06:52 PM

The movie wont open. what codec?

g1842 23-03-2005 09:33 PM

What are the fans for?

surfer14 23-03-2005 09:39 PM

g1842- if i am correct i believe colto meant the fans to be used to propel his scout in the air.

voices3d- i think you need to get the divX plugin if you can't view the last video that colto posted.....

colto 23-03-2005 10:05 PM

Haha surfer answered the questions before I ever even read them. And yes he is right. I am not sure if I will have room to add a aerodynamic shell. The fans start sticking straight up (for storage purposes) and then rotate down. This keeps me from being able to add anything to the top or sides.

surfer14 23-03-2005 10:39 PM

colto-i believe that voices3d couldn't view the last video you posted. anyway i thought it was pretty cool.

voices3d- i think you have to download the DivX plugin from this site http://www.divx.com/ if I am wrong would another member give the correct URL..........

Funky Bunnies 23-03-2005 11:06 PM

wow, man. Great stuff- Though I'm pretty sure you're not noobish enough to be in this category :p nice work on the legs. If you can maintain that amount of detail all around you should be golden. keep up the good work.

Ok I decided to model the computers mainframe. I still need to add all of the little circuits inbetween the parts. Anyone know of a good way to do this? I mean using like a plugins or something cuz I don't want to manually go in and bevel out tons of little wires. I was thinking maybe splines and using rail extrude. Dunno. Anyway here is the first shot.

colto 24-03-2005 03:01 AM

Here is the other shot of the mainframe. This really only took me 30 minutes to make. I just made some polys and beveled them like crazy! I still have alot ahead of me 4 this project. Here is my to do list:

This week: finish mainframe, do rough model of Rescue Pod.

Next Week: Finish Rescue Pod, Make Rescue pod arms and legs.

3rd Week: Finish modelling, Rig, Animate.

4th and 5th week: Have animation completely ready to render. Add any extras. Render Animation.

Final week: Composite all Animations together. Post Finals. Breath one gigantic sigh of relief ;)

R4s1n 24-03-2005 05:46 AM

Definetly coming together! Awesome progress so far. I bet the polygons are adding up fast with all the detail you're adding :D

surfer14 24-03-2005 03:12 PM

wow colto looking good i don't know anything about lightwave so i can't give you anytips. buT your robot is looking awsome......
I think you could beat a NORM anyday........

colto 25-03-2005 12:25 AM

Ah I don't think I am near good enough for NORM yet. For example, look at Voice's and Funky Bunnie's entries. I don't think I am anywhere near good enough to do that kind of stuff. I am definately gonna stick with noob. If I do win noob however I will enter as norm all times after. I would rather win a noob entry first before going straight to norm. I mean I already have enough competition with metallicjet and I REALLY want to try and win a competition for SimplyLightwave. There have been so many SM winners lately I wanna remind em that it is the skill and time put into a project that makes it great, not the software you use. Not to say it isn't a nice piece of software. I am about to start trying to learn it so I can get good with it before college. Of course my main app will always be LightWave! Speaking of nice software have you guys seen Vue 5 Infinity? It is a standalone program that does simply OUTSTANDING looking natural landscapes. It can also handle BILLIONS of polygons. Yes I said BILLIONS! I just watched the trailer for the app and stood there with my jaw dropped. And it's only $299 if you are a student! With it's lightwave compatibility I might finally be able to do a full CG movie. Anyways I am getting a little off topic so I am gonna go model now. Cheers!

metallicjet66 25-03-2005 01:56 AM

hey man:) so its a battle between each other huh, let me tell u something, u've been using ur 3d software for what? 8 months? i've been usin maya for a month, so dont expect alot from me;) but its still a tuff competition....let the best noob win;)

peace man

colto 25-03-2005 03:05 PM

Haha. Well currently you are the other noob with the most done so far. I have a feeling Krull's entry will be tough competition. Yeah I have been using LightWave for eight months but I have always kinda tried to avoid modelling. And I have NEVER done IK but will have to for my hydraulics. Hopefully this competition will change that! Anyways best of luck to you.

voices3d 25-03-2005 05:25 PM

I do agree on that you are more norm than noob. :) Tough, i feel like a noob. i got lightWave 4 years ago, but during 3years i dident do anything :P. hehe. The Scene editor still holds great mysteries for me :D

Your model is going great. Cant wait to se the finished one :)

colto 25-03-2005 06:07 PM

Haha yes I have never used the scene editor except for once where I used the scale scene keys button to make an animation go in slow-motion.

metallicjet66 25-03-2005 09:02 PM

so colto...ur done with ur bot? jus wonderin, cant wait to see ur animation with such a neat bot;)

colto 25-03-2005 09:21 PM

No not even close if I stick with my schedule then I should be done in about 2 weeks. Maybe less depending on how much I get done this week.

metallicjet66 26-03-2005 12:47 AM

oh ok, jus curious.............

Started the head.

metallicjet66 26-03-2005 05:26 AM

THATS HOT

colto 26-03-2005 09:23 PM

I have a 3D version of writers block write now lol. So I took a break from 3D and painted a picture and posted it at SimplyPhotoshop.

Funky Bunnies 27-03-2005 12:46 AM

haha I know how you feel, Colto. I just started my own head and I'm getting the exact same thing. lol i see a lot of potential in this head, though. If you detail it well you should be pretty good :) good luck.

Made some rotors. They still need a little detail.

sake 28-03-2005 07:16 PM

Zeeman 28-03-2005 07:23 PM

lookin' smackin' good man!

metallicjet66 28-03-2005 11:56 PM

MY GOD, UR GETTING UR ROBOT BETTER AND BETTER EVERY FRIKIN POST!!;)

colto 29-03-2005 12:12 AM

Yeah, normally the point of updates is to make your robot look better ;). Thanks for the comments guys.

g1842 29-03-2005 10:17 PM

Reallly nice work. I think a bump up to normal would be good. Seriously. You've got nice work and a nice concept. You would have a great chance in normal.

metallicjet66 29-03-2005 10:21 PM

u shouldnt think, u should know, the only reason he's in noob, is cuz he wants to win, he doesnt have the courage and determination to win in norm, or maybe he wants a DVD, either one, lol

zostix 29-03-2005 10:25 PM

Hey colto found this tutorial in my searches, thought that it might intrest you, and be of some use in your final animationSpreading Flame

Oh come on, that is not my reason. It would take a really pathetic person to stoop that low. I am not in it for the book, I am in it because I really think I should be noob. I don't even know if I can beat your bot metallic. I am just trying to be true to my skill level. I'll make ya a deal, if I do end up winning (which is doubtful ATM) I will compete as normal for all modelling challenges henceforth.(except for organic modelling as I have yet to make anything organic that looks even somewhat ok.)

colto 29-03-2005 11:27 PM

Ya zostix I have seen that tutorial before. I can't decide yet though whether I am using particles or or 2d animations for fire.

kumar 30-03-2005 12:05 PM

remember you win newbie twice and thats it,,, its norm from then on,... Hehe....
