It was inevitable really... do do de do do do, do do do do do

...good job I did it too, just noticed the buttons are deforming, can't have that now can we!

Peter Murphy 22-02-2006 07:52 PM

I dont think Fraser was implying that he has no concern about a 1st Class honours. More the fact that we may leave with a good honours, 1st or 2nd Class however, people who have very little clue about animating also will leave with a first class animation honours. And not that I'm saying well done to them, but it basically makes your honours degree mean F' all..

I havent checked any emails about the ball, I'll talk to you all about it in class.

Suzie is looking great. Like the freckles on her face suits her school uniform. How are the eyelashes morphing?

KrisYoung1980 22-02-2006 08:35 PM

Not sure I like the lashes to be honest, will play about with them before i decide to keep or ditch. It was proving too much of a pain in the arse to attach the lashes to they are morphing just by moving them down and out the same amount as the lids, because morphs are linear they stay matched up with the lids so it's not a problem.
BTW there will bo no-one in our year leaving with a 1st class honours degree that knows very little about animation - to get a 1st class honours degree you have to get an average of over 70% for all your modules including the project, but the project has a heavier weighting than anything else. Last year only 3 people got 1sts as far as I know there may be more this year but not many (hopefully got a fair idea of who those people will be too ;) )

Peter Murphy 22-02-2006 10:12 PM

jeez. Well I wont be getting a 1st Class. Im not doing enough artworks or Copyright Law module reading yet.

In my opinion eyelashes dont work with little girls. It's a grown up female feature.

KrisYoung1980 22-02-2006 10:14 PM

Thats pretty much my feeling on it, but because they're detached they'll be pretty simple to take out so I'll wait and see how it looks in the scenes...

davie563 22-02-2006 10:18 PM

its lookin nice, i like the frekle texture, very nice effect. As for the lashes why not try a brown or a lighter colour, and try knockin the transperency up a bit :p

Looks better with every post !

Thats the night version of Suzie more or less finished now, just the insane version, the mother and the ornamentation left to model - then I need to start thinking about recording the audio... eeek!

I might have to make sure that Noogles tail is never parallel with the camera for face on shots, could be slightly misconstrued...

davie563 27-02-2006 10:45 PM

lookin nice Kris, I really like the night time ver. Has a really nice pose full of character !! Very cool

Keep it up !

Thats pretty much all 3 versions of Suzie finished now, I might make a new bloodshot eye texture for the insane one, not sure if its worth the effort as its quite a dark scene and the camera is reasonably far away from her eyes. Time to do the mum... so to speak ;)

You may have noticed I decided to do away with the straight jacket as it seemed like too much work when a hospital gown would do just as well!

Finished modelling the mother, although she's still to be rigged and textured, starting to loose the will with this project a little, at least in terms of modelling - which is quite good in a way as it means I'm not spending too much time on each object. Really need to work out my timings and put together an animatic to get started on the audio...

Peter Murphy 01-03-2006 04:29 PM

Excellent work Kris, yeah I'm the same, losing the will to model. Like you, I just want to get a move on with the animation. Mum looks excellent, no crits. She blends well with the other characters.

Suzie looks great with her hair down too. Keep going ;)

davie563 01-03-2006 04:32 PM

yeah, lookin gd kris, exzactly the way i pictured the mum, looks like a right bitch !

Nice work !

Another group render for no real reason other than I felt like it - The mother is now fully rigged with basic morphs, will have to confirm camera placement before I decide if she needs a full compliment of speech morphs.

P.S. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: SCOTLAND! WHYYYY!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

zerobio 02-03-2006 12:59 AM

This last image is so excellent Kris. I've really enjoyed following your progress and hope you continue this project. If not, keep up the great work.

KrisYoung1980 02-03-2006 09:04 AM

Cheers Zerobio, nice to know that someone outside my class is looking at this stuff ;) I'm afraid I'm going to have to finish this project whether I like it or not as its the major component for me getting my honours degree! I have a little more environmental modelling to do which I'll hopefully finish by the middle of next week, then I can get the audio recorded and finally start animating!! :attn: 9 weeks and counting...

Very slow progress at the moment as I'm experimenting with using Motion Mixer but here are a few expressions now that Suzies all morphed up...

...Also, Noogle is now all tooled up and ready to stick the mother...

Peter Murphy 08-03-2006 11:06 PM

looking good Kris. Suzie at six oclock loosk scary as! When are you gettin' down to the animation?

KrisYoung1980 09-03-2006 09:38 AM

Ha Ha, thought I might get a comment or two on that one, I just cranked all the mouth morphs to max to see what she'd look like - mesh held together pretty well considering, she'll never actually look like that in the animation unless I decide that she has the capability to devour souls... ;)

Should hopefully get down and dirty with the animation next week depending on how this weeks tests go with motion mixer, have done a few render tests and though I'll probably hand in a non-rad version, I might manage to get radiosity going for the end of year show (since theres over a month and a half inbetween)

Hey Folks, realised I've been neglecting this thread a little so thought I'd post something, I'm trying to work out all my camera angles, etc before I start animating so I know exactly wha tI can get away with, finding it a bit disheartening that its becoming so sloppy, but with everything else thats happening I just dont have the time to devote to it...

davie563 24-03-2006 02:30 PM

looks really good Kris !

I know what u mean about time, i was thinkin about how much time we have left and when im goin to get round to doin the special effects animation ect.... it just makes u feel ill....

I guess now its all about time managment and u seem to be doin pretty well, i dont know how ur other classes are comin along, but this new render really looks nice and shows really nice emotion.

Only small thing i noticed was the reflection of the wee girls eye in the mothers glasses, seem maybe a bit to much...

Other than that. lookin great. Keep it goin !

KrisYoung1980 24-03-2006 05:52 PM

cheers for the comments , its not reflection though, its refraction from the lenses so it has to be opaque, is probably cranked up a little high, but she is a bit of a magoo

Another scene test, this is where Suzie discovers that Noogle isn't quite a cute and friendly as he 1st appeared...

davie563 28-03-2006 01:13 PM

Looks Nice ! Nice lighting and shadows. :)

Is that an Fprime render ? I think i'll need to use Fprime on some of my scenes for speed. Are u using Radiosity in your renders ?

JohnD5000 02-04-2006 03:36 PM

Like your lighting man, although the shadows are a bit off putting at parts. Try not to have the shadow of her own hand on herself, I think it may look better. And on that first image her shadow on the floor is a bit compressed, it'd look much more dramatic if it stretched out across the floor. And maybe have her mum's shadow looming over her. It may be good if you can fix those shadows without compromising the lighting in the rest of it. Otherwise, leave it because it's not that important.

just a quick update to so you know that there is some progress being made (slow as it may be). I've made a start on the broad brush animation, will go back and work in the details and lip-synch later. Its not going great, but it'll have to do.

davie563 10-04-2006 11:05 PM

looks nice.

How much animation have u got done and also still to do ?

U might want to try a darker scene so that the lamp really looks like the main light source. Give it a scary feel. Also might be more dramatic.....

Keep it up

Peter Murphy 13-04-2006 10:38 AM

I actually like the lighting in it, It's quite nice and subtle. Unless you do want to over dramatise it then you could mess about with the lighting.

But by her action I don't think it is exactly meant to be a scene out of Psycho. I dunno, I would leave it. I like it.

The problem with showing screenshots is that people will scrutinize it not as a scene from a movie, but as a still. They have time to look at it and make major judgements on it, whereas with a movie by time the shot has is shown it has already changed to another, and the previous one is forgotten about. The two most important shots in your movie will be your first, and probably more significantly, your last. As this will leave your audience with the mood you hope to obtain. Which is why I usually stick some dramatic music in credits. It can make or break a movie.

davie563 14-04-2006 11:57 AM

I think what i was meaning was the way the shadows are. it looks like there is only 1 light source but the girls shadow is goin in the wrong direction from the light comin out of the light bulb. It looks like a little light is comin from the window but maybe a lighter shadow would be nice.

I really like the lighting but thats the only thing that struck me.

Peter Murphy 14-04-2006 04:45 PM

Ahh that is true. Gah what an annoyance, strangely I didn't see that. The darker of the two shadows should possibly be the lighter of the two and vica versa.

But it might not be worth changing. Depends how blatent it is when it's moving.

KrisYoung1980 14-04-2006 05:54 PM

I hear what you're saying, that was a technical error on my part though, i have 2 cloned lights that some objects are blocked for 1 and others for the other, had one of my ticks in the wrong place, :headbang: same with the lamp - fall off values were applied to the wrong one of the two lights - its all just beginning to get to me I think ;)

davie563 16-04-2006 05:33 PM

i wouldnt worry 2 much, the scene looks very good. These wee things could be found in all of our animations.

Lookin forward to seein it on May 5th

Peter Murphy 19-04-2006 08:03 PM

Could be. more like will be.

I just left my computer running for a couple of days to see my kick scene look like crap. Gah. Took hours to animate as well.

:angery:

Hows yours comin Kris?

KrisYoung1980 19-04-2006 08:41 PM

I wouldnt be lying if i said it could be going better - just cant seem to get any fluidity to the motion and achieving decent transitions with the motion mixer material is proving to be more than a little difficult - I'll get something handed in though. Not sure if the same can be said about Special Effects class though

JohnD5000 20-04-2006 07:24 AM

Special Effects; the "what can everyone throw together in a week class?"!:headbang:

final animation, 1st scene is just stills and its ropey as hell, but thought i should post it anyways for closure ;o)

Fallenswordsman 25-05-2006 06:28 AM

Good to see this one finished, Kris - I know it has taken you a fair old while and it is quite an achievement in itself, ropey bits and all. Well done, mate

KrisYoung1980 25-05-2006 09:29 AM

Cheers mate, hopefully combined with everything else I've done over the year, it'll be enough to come out with a decent mark. The good news now is that I can start modelling and animating anything I want nad take as long as I want doing it!! Joy!

Mark 25-05-2006 04:27 PM

Well done Kris. Quite an achievement to have this completed. Best of luck with the finals.
