Seriously great stuff from you here, Nail.

May I ask how you're finding Modo and the transition from Lightwave? Do you find there to be many features that Lightwave could do with?

Nail 04-10-2006 04:17 AM

Hi Fallenswordsman!

Thank you and it is good to see you.
In my point of view, modo is far more superior to Lightwave 8.5. I do not have LW9 so I can't compare them. For example: modo has the fastest OpenGL. I can easily rotate this model with very minimal lag. When I rotate such heavy model in modo the CPU usage is only at 5% -10% compare to LW 100%. The tools are far more superior in terms of control, (edge, points, rotate move,) and much much more. My favorite is the edge slide.
If you wish to know more, go to http://www.luxology.com and get a free 30 day trial.

Finally, transition for me was very easy.

Thank you for your comments. I will update this model soon, the engine part is the fun one..

BTW I only use LW for rendering and nothing more at this point.

Thanks for the info, Nail. I've already downloaded it from work although I suspect I won't get any time to try it until the weekend. I've been looking at Modo for a while now, but I don't know if I can justify yet another 3D package...maybe the demo will help decide!

Looking forward to what you make of the engine!

Hi all
Just started on the Engine, not much to see at this stage.

Thanks

Nail, really good work, and excellent attention to detail, also a nice start to the engine, I imagine this was the part you were dreading, lots of small parts, and tons of detail!, very time consuming, but worth it in the end, keep up the good work.

Also, can I ask, does the geometry from Modo import OK into Lightwave? – I know sometimes importing from 3Ds Max can screw things up?

Thanks, and good luck!!

Thanks for your comments. Yes, geometry can be saved as .lwo without any problems. As for SubPatches, I have to work with quads so that LW8.5 can handle it.

Thanks
Nail

Fantastic work, as ever, Nail. I'm happy to see you still working on this one after so much time. Must be busy times for you, eh?

b3ta 03-07-2007 08:44 PM

Here here! - The attention to detail is incredible - you've taken care over each and every piece - I applaude your dedication - don't give up as you're going to have a fantastic piece of work at the end of this. :D

Five stars all the way from me * * * * * !!!
