arran: I guess you'll have to wait a little more for that hat trick. ;)
admiralbcd : Well, I'm still working. :headbang: The challenge will be extended for 1 week, maybe I still have a chance to finish something... Take a look: |
Certainly looking very nice to me - best of luck with getting a finished result though :)

Thanks Fallenswordsman.
I already modeled other objects to compose the scene. I'm trying to put all togheter now, adjusting the textures/displacement maps, etc. In the final scene, the man will be holding a tool and working on the violin.(as in the concept drawing) Here is another image with a displacement map for the shirt: (was using only procedurals in the first test) |
looking awesome! can't wait to see a final. :)

Just joined this Simply Lightwave site. Thought I would post in the challenge forum first to catch a glimps of the other entries.

Thank you Mike and THX1138.
Here's another update. C&C are welcome... |
You have a good eye for how things are laid out, but the scene seems too empty. I really like the pose of the old man. He seems very humble at what he is doing. I reccomend working with that theme. I can picture a warm sunlit enviorment for him to accent that feeling. A hobby room for example. You could model a bunch of stuff he has made a put them on a shelf in the background.
How are you on texturing human skin? are you using Mental Ray or V-Ray for the final render? How are you on hair? |

Hey THX1138 thanks for your input, I appreciate the feedback.
I don't use Mental Ray/V-Ray, only Lightwave. About the skin, I'm testing two shaders: TB_FakeSkin and Chanlum. I didn't paint any map (color/bump/spec) for the skin yet. The hair will depend on the time I'll have, maybe the poor guy will end up totally bald. :mg: |
wow this has come on loads since the early head stages - you've got a great pose for the old man :)
have you decided on a backdrop yet? Si |
No updates yet? The deadline is really ticking! It's sad to see that hardly any lightwave users are involved in this challenge. I think you are the only one. I hope you can pull off a win with this one.

I downloaded several photos from the web to use as reference, the old man's pose is almost a copy of one of this photos. In the original image the man uses other kind of tool and he is shaping the wood. As the backdrop I'll use a simple wall with a shelf and maybe some tools hanging. |

Yes, it's really sad. Only a few entries in the Maya forum too... Here goes another update. Just need to put something on that wall... |
wow, this entry has come a long way....almost there....stay on target....( sorry about that, I'm just a star wars geek  )
It's looking really good, but like thx1138 said ( ain't that a SW geek, must be ! ), it's looking a bit cold right now. If you're not using a window, I'd suggest placing a yellowish light with a window shadow map, to get some nice contrasts. |
