the reason the toys arent textured to the extreme is because i'll be making that a night vision shot and with the grainy picture and i never thought it was needed.
As u can see the grey-scale image at the bottom looks alot dirtier than the colour version. Just need to wait and see at end  |

Hi, ive just finished this opening scene and made a ruff we board to give me a feel for the way the camera will possible move.
Only 1 more scene to go then its animation time. Ill prob go back at end and fine tune lighting, but im really pleased with the way its lookin and cant hang about on it 2 long. Only 6weeks left  I'll get renders of the last scene up soon as it develops. Cheers  |

here is a wee test of the scene after the boiler room, this is were u see the characters for the 1st time as the pull the gameboy into the darkness. When the camera gets to this scene the characters will prob be around 1/2 way into darkness and then for a few sec u will catch a glimpse of them. Then the camera will follow them into the darkness and the Lost Toys logo will fade in.
Well thats the plan, thats me ready for animation Woohoo ! just goin to work on the morph maps for both the characters face's over the net couple of days then i can get into animation at end of week :p  * the square pattern on the floor is cause by a grate cover on the outer house wall, just incase ur wonderin, |

hello :)
Here is a wee pic of the starting pose for the 1st scene were u see the characters. The above post is the setting where this takes place, u will see them push the Gameboy into the darkness.. and the camera will then follow them into the darkness and start the next sequence.. man, i think i have finnaly found out that animation is the least enjoyable part of the process to me :( I just love modelling/Texturing/Lighting..... But i have 3 weeks to get this animated. So ill have updates pretty often.... Cheers  *** Ohh, and WHY IN HELL did i design a character with 4 arms DOOH !! |
Ha ha, four arms. A tip though when animating four arms, some people are tempted to animate both left arms the same as each other and same with right. It's best to have them all doing there own individual thing like we do with two. For an example look at Elzar (the chef) in Futurama.
And as for the four arms, you could have gotten away with just the two. The ants in Antz have six limbs like real ants but on A Bugs Life they have only four, if I remember correctly their excuse was that they wanted them more human like so you could relate to them better. (I think the bad guys have the six limbs though (seeing as you don't want to relate to them it's fine alienating them with more limbs.) but I can't be bothered looking it up and confirming it) But yeah lookin good. |
cheers m8,
yeah, i plan to have the arms doing different things, expecially when they are dancing in the last scene. The gd thing is i dont have alot of animation in my whole project. there are 2 scenes with animation, and id prob say they add up to around 24sec all2gether. This means i can make sure they are done well. * Oh i came up with an idea for my Logo animation, im goin to do it in 3D and it will disintegrate in a cloud of dust as the camera gets closer to it. Once i get it done, ill upload a few renders at different stages. |

im workin on this scene the now, its the 2nd last shot in the short and this is when Slim falls of the gameboy.
Just thought id post a wee pic, kept it small because it will be better when u see the final animation.. Cheers  *out of interest, whats the time-scale everybody is aiming for, i think mine will come in at 1min 20sec. What are they rest of u guys aiming for ? |
Not to worry y'all, but it says on the sheet we got out before all this, "The final animation should be greater than two minutes long." Although it also says, "This is negotiable depending on the nature of project." Which I assume only applies if your doing something like Craig with his flythrough thingy!
My animatic's running at just over 3 mins! Oh, an' lookin' good. |
uckk well, he will just have to make do with what i hand in.
:headbang: * They prob give the class a 2min time to aim for so that if ppl dont reach what they set our for they still have somthin substantial, and also so ppl dont hand-in anythin around the 30sec mark. |
Yeah, you keep telling yourself that.
FAIL! lol |
 Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo !

Hello!!!!
Hi Fraser....
Looking forward to seeing the finished work after such a big build up....:attn: I take it you've done your poster as well ya swot!!! I'm also rendering what will probably be the 2nd last scene and hope to do a bit of lipsync for the final scene. I'm doing a video/photo/animation for the artworks which should be out in time but I've still to start the SFX outcome, study copyright, and do the paperwork/poster...... jeeze! How long do we have again before each one's handed in, I know it's Week 13 (is that Fri 12th) Lou  |
hi :D
Im looking forward to seeing ur work 2 :attn: The dates for hand-ins are : Creative Praccy Assessment - 4th May :angery: :angery: :angery: CA4 - 5th May SFX - 12th May Artworks - 26th May :p (Gives ur 2 weeks to work on this after SFX) Dont worry i havent started my SFX aswell, im tryin to think of somthin tha covers 3 of the main teck but is also fairly simple to execute, i want to stay away from character animation in it, i think we are beeing marked on our compositing anyways, so character anim might just slow us down... Should have CA4 done by Friday. Workin on last scene 2day, only a few sec long. Good to hear ur on ur last couple of scenes aswell, uve been absent from class for so long i was starting to worry if u were goin to finish, sounds like u have kept ontop of it .... ;) |

Just been muckin about with CD stickers ect.. Ill get my poster up aswell when its done and ill cap of this thread with a Client Stroyboard...
i just finished the editing there, the last 2 scenes are quickshades, so im rendering the last 2 scenes now, prob take me 48hours. (im only doin it overnight so it will take 2 night) then just replace the quickshades in the timeline and over .... Woohoo !! :attn: |
Hello
hi Fraser,
Looks like you've got the whole package down to a 'T' once again.... Thanks also for the info I had noticed that the outcome sheet for SFX and final project says WEEK 13 (which in the SFX document is listed as the 12th May) Are you getting the A1 poster printed out yourself or handing in a file? I imagine it would probably need to be taken into the printers by the beginning of next week to be printed out in time! >>uve been absent from class for so long<< I've been busy teaching virtual camera, lighting, sound and animation narrative etc,. (need the money). :bandit: Good thing about this course is that you can do much of it at home if you've the right PC. Lou |
hi, my PC was off limits all 2day, took 24hrs to render that last scene there :(
AS for the poster u just hand in ur Bmp or jpeg whatever u want, make sure u dont compress it thou, so when they print it it looks nice and sharp  |
Hi guys.
I was holding off because i was workin on my new site. Its all done now and ive uploaded Lost Toys for you guys to see. Hope you like it and look forward to hearing what u think :D its 14mb's so it shouldnt take to long to Download http://fraserdavie.com/ (Just click animations once in to see Lost Toys) |
No replies :(
Here is the direct link, i should have posted it at the start http://fraserdavie.com/losttoys.htm |
I've followed this thread and your progression.
You've modeled a lot of cool things/toys! So my only/main critique is that it is rendered/lit too dark. I could hardly see anything but black until the turn and the light of the gameboy. |
cheers.
I actually brightened up this version. :p Did u use the calibration image to adjust ur settings ? it will help alot. |
Awesome animation especially the end:
When (I'm not sure of his name) is playing the game and he says "Son of B" and the music covers the last word. Also noticed you had your Tick Tock characters with the toys. |
cheers m8.
The guys dancing away and at the end is called Slim, the smaller one is Noodles :D Yeah, i stuck in my tic-tock guys just to see if anybody would spot them :p |
Sorry mate - stuck in hotels with crummy wireless all week so not had a chance to view this until now...
Looks good though. Two main crits I have are: (1) Whilst the lighting is nice and moody and really sets the tone, I kinda get the feeling that its all just that little bit too dark. Found myself squinting at the monitor trying to make out the details (although that could just be my monitor settings). (2) Too much plain black cuts in there. The fades to black fit with the scene, but I just feel they're a tad overused/too long - it kinda breaks up the flow of the piece a little. |
Getting a DNS problem here :(
|
Looks awesome! It's good to see another "strathclyder" using LIghtwave! :D
|
Okay, DNS problem resolved - nice little animation! I would be proud of it at least.
Edit: Watched again with my gamma adjusted I must admit I didn't make out a lot of the detail in the first runthrough but it does look very impressive the amount of work and the small attention to detail that you have made. |
cheers for all the comments :)
Thats me successfully graduated from Uni. I managed to get a 1st Class Honours which i was ecstatic about. Now im preparing for my showreel. I have most of it planned out, what needs to be modelled, camera pans ect.. My reel will be focusing on Modelling because i feel that is the field im more suited for. But with time and experience id like to eventually move over into animation. I'll start some threads once the actual modelling begins. hopefully in the next 1-2 weeks :) Cheers again  |
Congratulations Davie.
May you have a long and successful career in the 3D world  |
