Jan/Feb - Kumar - Noob

Hi guys, i am shaky as its my first time. Well i think i am still a noob, Unless someone disagrees. The character i will be modelling will be a demonic barbarian. A warrior sucked into the dark side. Dont really have a scanner with me to upload any concept, but will see what i can do with photoshop. So now all i need to do is plan out the character.

Sketching the look

1 Attachment(s)
Well guys sorry no scanner, but i think i am better with a pencil. But here is the sketching that i did with photoshop. Might not show too many concepts. Not really good at them. But here is the face.

DigiMatt 07-01-2004 07:37 AM

intresting character, good luck mate!

kumar 07-01-2004 07:38 AM

Thanks. DigiMatt

Body structure

1 Attachment(s)
Well here is the body structure. Will be a bulky sort of a fellow. Wont have too many body deatils as i want to later add armour or whatever my brain is coming up with... Guess i will be sketching some more as i am free today.

Final Reference Face

1 Attachment(s)
Well still sketching. This will be my reference for the character's face. Cleaned up a little and hope the proportions are ok...:)

Final Reference Body

1 Attachment(s)
This is the final reference for the full body. Toned down the structure as he was too bulky before.

Starting the Head

1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys, well after all that sketching in photoshop, here is a real update. Using the method in the Inside Lightwave book,,, think its called the detail out method. All that Orc head,,, really speeds up a normal head i guess.
;)

The Face

Now here is a pic with nose and the lips finished... guess i have to think weather need tounge and teeth,,,,

Head Compeleted

1 Attachment(s)
Here is the full head. I know that i need to tweak it so that he looks more firece. But i want him to have a suttle expressionless face as if he enjoys blood and killing. Guess i have to thank phillip on the face tutorial,,, the way he did the chin ,,, add points. That really sped things up. Really starting to enjoy this site.

dae 08-01-2004 12:56 PM

very nice, lets us see the rest when you are done.

Marbla 08-01-2004 06:56 PM

hey kumar, this is BR_fatty from 3dlinks.

i can't wait to see this character, it looks pretty interesting.

although, from your sketches, it looks terribly unproportionate. was that on purpose, him being overly bulky, and all.

mtmckinley 08-01-2004 06:59 PM

The model's looking nice! :)

The earlobe might be a little big.

leroy3rd 08-01-2004 07:29 PM

This model is coming along very quickly (and nicely!). My favorite part? His HUGE neck. THAT IS AWESOME, it cracks me up! :D

kumar 09-01-2004 02:18 AM

Marbla : Hi there, well his body needs to be bulky as he is a barbarian so i guessed that he will need more mass.

mtmckinley : Thanks, i missed that i guess.

leroy3rd : well his body is going to be massive so i guess he needed a large neck.

Leovenous 09-01-2004 03:00 AM

Thats good Kumar. Either I should have entered as a noob, or you are not a noob. :)

kumar 09-01-2004 06:20 AM

Starting the Torso

1 Attachment(s)
Hmm, well i think that i am a noob. Guess i was working with lightwave daily and doing projects that was way out of my league that gave me some skills. The dragon model i uploaded was my first real project that i did. At first was really crazy but i stuck with it and it turned out great.

So back to todays little update, got the basic torso going. Simple box modelling with 4 seg at the y and 2 on the z, then just shape your pecks, then smooth shift the bottom and drag points around till i got this.

DigiMatt 09-01-2004 07:49 AM

damn nice modelling kumar, keep it up!!

Mark 09-01-2004 08:31 AM

Yep. Looking really good so far.

kumar 09-01-2004 01:52 PM

Skull Logo

1 Attachment(s)
Well i know that i need to finish up the torso and all, but was tempted at doing a skull logo for maybe the belt or gaunlets, or something else. But surely will use this somewhere. Dont really want a realistic looking one.

Hmm, guess i got a little distracted thats all.

Oh ya and this started with pen and extended its way to this.

kumar 10-01-2004 06:33 AM

Back to the Torso

1 Attachment(s)
Well after yesterdays nights little distraction, today's update is the torso... Hmm great as the weekend is here and i am totally free to concerntrate on this, so hopefully i will have more updates today.

Time check.. Its 2.30pm, this pic is around 2 hours into the torso. Tweaked a lot. And reverted, to tweak again. So here is what i did, Smooth shift around 2 times to get the shoulder, 4 times to get the arms. Smooth shift the hip around 2 times, turn off sym, and then smooth shift 6 times to get the legs, Smooth sift here and there for details.

kumar 10-01-2004 09:07 AM

2 & 1/2 hours later

1 Attachment(s)
Well getting tired,,,,

Time check says its 5pm. Just finished the hands. Box modelling and smooth shifting around a lot gave me this.

kumar 10-01-2004 09:08 AM

Here is the feet.

1 Attachment(s)
Well did the feet too,

kumar 10-01-2004 09:13 AM

The full body

1 Attachment(s)
Well here is the last image for the 2 and a half hours that i spent on the torso, joined the feet and hands.

The head is not attached as the points are more than the neck, so i just kind of placed it neatly. By the way does that matter when you animate it???

Ok think i will take a break and start to think about armour and other scene deatils. Or maybe i should start the texturing,,,,, MAN i hate to texture,,, cause not good at it. Well we will see what happens.

Mark 10-01-2004 12:13 PM

Very nice modelling there Kumar. I'd suggest taking another quick look at the finger and toe nails though. They look a little flat and round like somene's been at your character with a lumphammer :)

kumar 10-01-2004 03:03 PM

Skulls

1 Attachment(s)
Hmm, thanks Mark, Guess i might get that later.

So time check now tells me its nearly 11pm,,,, hehe hope this freaks out someone. Well i decided to start modelling the other things he might be wearing. Hmm, so i modelled a low detail skull and put it around a chain of some sorts. Dont think i need a very detailed skull,,,,, maybe later when i further develop the character. The skull is quite easy to make, i started at the eye scokets and then extended and drag points along the way.

I know that he is starting to look tribal and all, but i do intend to give him armour not a grass skirt. Also i am thininking of an unusual weapon. Any ideas from you guys??? Think thats all for today

Mark 10-01-2004 03:46 PM

Weapon? Hmmm... I'm kinda getting the image of one of those energy staff thingies from Stargate...

mtmckinley 10-01-2004 04:14 PM

Making nice progress. :)

R4s1n 11-01-2004 02:57 AM

Awesome progress on your barbarian:)

I would like to see him with an axe type weapon.... where one side is an axe and other side is like a spear
just a suggestion

kumar 12-01-2004 01:16 AM

Thanks guys,,, Hmm, actually i orginally had ideas for the axe. But guess the weapon will be the last few things i do. Really wanted to get something going yesterday, guess was busy. So that makes me free today. Man i work weird. Ok time check says its 9am. I will start in about 9.30 and come back and update what i have going.

kumar 12-01-2004 07:03 AM

Armour

1 Attachment(s)
Well time check says 3pm, well was distracted away for other stuff. But came back to do this. Ok, the right shoulder will have the metal pad, down the right arm, there isn't going to be much stuff, maybe a bracer. But the left hand will be having a glove of sort with a wolverine style spikes coming out. Hmm, guess that just popped into my head. So here is the update. Maybe i will do more armour and update today. Stay tuned ;)

DigiMatt 12-01-2004 07:34 AM

coming along nice kumar, good work! :)

kumar 12-01-2004 07:59 AM

Some more Armour

1 Attachment(s)
Thanks DigiMatt
Well guess i did not want to give him a breast plate or something like that. So a cloth of sort was the idea. Sort of extended the shoulder pad and then gave a strap of sort with a ring. Hmm seems to be the classic type. Now for the lower body i Guess.

So far a sandle and simple armour seems to be the idea. He is after all a Barbarian. Maybe will do a couple more styles till i am happy with it. Or maybe not. Will see how this goes.

dae 12-01-2004 09:35 AM

I think a grass skirt covered with some of that armour plating would add some character, good modeling, keep it up.

Dae

R4s1n 12-01-2004 12:21 PM

Dude your barbarian is simply cool man:)
are you aiming on having those wolverine spikes on both hands?
Keep up the updates as well,

kumar 12-01-2004 12:23 PM

No the spikes are only on the left hand, as he is right handed,,, and need the space to hold and strike using the weapon.

kumar 12-01-2004 01:35 PM

Still the armour

1 Attachment(s)
Well here is an update, Now all i need are the lower legs. And not to mention the weapon, Or maybe he needs a head gear. Maybe not.

R4s1n 12-01-2004 01:43 PM

Nice start on the legs, cool detail as well:)

kumar 12-01-2004 02:52 PM
