hohum, guess you're right there.
gimme a little time :D

shyy 06-05-2004 05:24 PM

Is LW8 easier to use?

sod 06-05-2004 05:44 PM

No.

philip 06-05-2004 05:46 PM

yes, LightWave 8 is easier to use than the Columbia :P

Cchristensen 06-05-2004 05:48 PM

I would put the ease of use somewhere between a can opener and the US tax forms.

philip 06-05-2004 05:52 PM

or between a blender and a toaster maybe?

a quick render (again with Zonda wheels)

Johnny9ball 06-05-2004 07:21 PM

Yes I really like it has workflow improvements they help. For the most part you wont notice to much of a differance while modeling. Some cool new tools in modeler and layout gets most of the lw8 juice.

Off the top of my head I will try and tell ya some stuff thats cool and I like.

No more volume select only points and polygons so its way nice to just click between them (space) without haveing to go through volume all the time. Volume is now a botton in a tab. I love that one.

Im modeler it seams the tabs and tools are nested better. 7.5 was kinda confusing on where they put things but in 8.0 for me atleast it isnt as hard to find something. One thing they did to help was nest tools that are not used often in dropdowns so they are out of the way and placed tools used often out in the open. Whenever I want to find something it isnt in the middle of a bunch of tool I never use.

Got extender+ now so no more closeing polygns. Bandsaw Pro is default.

When you select points it showes as a solid yellow square which is much easyer on my eyes for some reason. Before in 7.5 it was a yellow outline when you select points as a solid square they look more solid or something, anyway I like it.

You can make the edges of polygons different colors I really like this because grey blends in to often. Problem is only newely created objects can have different color edges after you change the color in display. I was gonna change edge colors on my mclaren but it wont affect any edges already created. Lots of colors to choose from.

Buttons look way better more flat.

Some new selection thingys some are really usefull.

You can add layers inbetween layers and deleat layers and it will shift all layers up and down. Problem is when you add it shifts layers and shifts names to which is greatbut..... If you deleat a layer it shifts layers but not names which is probbly a bug and I reported it.

Johnny9ball 06-05-2004 07:23 PM

WOW thats awsome Philip. Im trying my best to catch up. :D Is that Fprime?

06-05-2004 08:50 PM

Mark 07-05-2004 07:46 AM

Hot Damn...

Now all I gotta do is wait for my copy of [8] to turn up so I can get wavin' again....

R4s1n 08-05-2004 02:15 AM

Hey Philip do you by any chance own a McLaren F1? Seriously this is some sweet stuff :D

WillPatterson2 11-05-2004 07:55 PM

awesome, okay i'm now going to learn how to model something, have been waiting to begin way to long... goes and dusts off LW 7.5 install cd

Johnny9ball 12-05-2004 12:43 AM

Awsome......learning from Philip is a joy he is a real master in his modeling. There is something about watching a master modeler that you can get from books. Its quite amazing.

Sir_Pro_View 23-05-2004 10:59 PM

What Part has the Tires and Rims being modeled? I need to get my hands on that one :-)

Johnny9ball 24-05-2004 08:51 AM

That part hasent been done yet. Philip is useing tires from a different model for renders just to make it look more complete. I imaging that part is comeing up soon because the body is looking nearly complete.

promethius 06-06-2004 10:12 PM

I totally agree, that learning from videos to text tutorials have it's advantage. Phil is going a great job showing great tips from the beginning and current videos. He's the King of tutorials for LW. Finished up to Tut50, waiting for more :).

07-06-2004 12:03 AM

hes just getting over his broken wrist and will eb back very soon :)

webshot 07-06-2004 04:15 PM

out of curiosity is there a trial chapter that can be tried before I purchase the whole package? I have read the many comments and they all seem great. But I like to form my own opinions before a purchase. (no disrespect to anybody)

07-06-2004 07:43 PM

yes the image plain setup is here...first part free!

Thanks...! I like to get a feel for the instructor before buying a 100 part cd.,...lol

Mark 08-06-2004 12:20 PM

There's also some complete short part tutorials in the Free section (like the ocean tute) that have also been done by Philip if you want to get a further feel for his style.

21-06-2004 09:17 PM

philip 21-06-2004 09:23 PM
