June - Noob - sandman300
1 Attachment(s)
I heard about this contest at the Newtek lightwave forums. So I thought I'd try it. I've never entered a contest before, and because I'm not sure if I could be still considered a noob or not (the program is IMHO huge, and there are still many areas that I havn't touched) so for now, I'll enter as a noob. If there is a overwhelming demand... Ill change to norm. Well here is my entery... or the beginings of it anyway.
The Weinerdog Cerebus.:) |
Glad to see you in. :) Looking forward to progress!
|
Yep - always good to have more faces on board. Best of luck!
|

looks like a nice start |
can't wait to see more!

Thanks for the welcome.
Sorry, it took me a little to get going, I should be able to update more frequently now. I ve been working o the smaller details so that I only had to do it once. I had had a little problem with some points that got scrambled, didnt notice them until I was studying the endomorphs. |

Here is a closeup of one of the eyes.
|
Nice texture on the eye. I'd check to either make sure that all the polys are subpatched, or subdivide the mesh after you're done since there's some definite polygon edges visible around the edge of the eye.
|
Woof!
|
make the teeth a little unevenly sized, it'll look more ferocious!
|
Man the dog seems so popular. Try making it different so that it stands out. Good Luck.

Thanks for the crit.
Mark: there's some definite polygon edges visible around the edge of the eye. Right now Im letting it go like that, If I increase the Subpatch render level the poly edges dissappear, once I finish modeling I may do just what you suggest. Zeeman: make the teeth a little unevenly sized, it'll look more ferocious! Actually I was going for a more fluffy cuddelly Cerabus.:p At this point, Im begining to think about how to texture the fur. I tried using SasLight but the model is apparently too complex. Anyone have any ideas? Anyway, here is the latest update. |
Woof! Woof! Woof!
Cute little Cerberus! Nice model. |

instead of sasquatch try using a plug-in called Velvet. I think it would give the same results as Dae's image. You can find the plug-in at Flay.com unless you already have it.

I looked for Velvet on Flay... apparently its not available anymore.
Not to give up hope, I ve been playing with the presets in lightwave. this is what I came up with so far. |
that looks kool :) nice work

thanks, well it took a bit of doing, and the model has started to really bog down my computer (I really need more RAM). But I basiclly finished modeling, I think I may work out a endomorph or two, I was thinking about building a skeleton for it. I may not, just because my system is not liking the stress too much.
Here is the latest. think there is anything that I could improve? |
Yep - a long, lolling tongue to add to the 'cute' cerberus effect ;)

thanks for the address. Ill try it out.
Till then...update;) |
From what we can see it looks awesome but can you show us the back of it? Maybe add a few lights?
|
Maybe building a small scene for him as well would be nice. Is that a chu toy you have in his mouth there?

Here is a scene I cooked up tonite. Think Clifford the big red dog/cerberus.:p
note this is with the velvet plugin. |
I love it! Nice composite. Never thought of him being that big, but ah well!
|
A little overcaster would make it better.
|
LOL! i dig it!!! some hdri rendering would do wonders.

oops

Thanks for all the support. One thing I didnt model very well was the dogs butt. I didnt have any reference pics and of course I dont generally look at dog butts. I thought about looking on the internet for pics, but then I realized that If there is a web cite out there, that has pics of animal butts, I dont want to know about it.
I was playing with SasLight and I was able to get it too work(Reduce pollys by lots) If I ever rebuild this, or the next time I need hair or fur, Ill keep the poly counts low. In the immage you can see there are a few holes in the mesh (and your looking at the good side) Thuoght Id post it anyway for th e entertainment value. HDRI? Cerberus' Clues:p |

time to get some of the contest requirements out of the way.
Link: www.mythicalrealm.com I actually dont have any concept art. I usually think about what I want to do for a long time (acouple of days -- I dont need to think at my day job) and then I gather as many reference pics as I can and then off to modeling. Here is a wireframe, did I forget anything? I was thiking of using the Schoolbus scene for my final, any comments? |
For the final scene....Tune down the specularity of the cerberus so it matches the environment around it. Maybe make him a bit darker since the scene looks a bit on the rainy side.

How's this?
|
try lowering the density of the light abit.
also his back legs are not in the coorect place for the picture. if you look for the picture its in. his legs will be infront of the bus and not at side of it. |
That looks much better :)
Are you going to add some kind of fur with sasquatch? |
pretty cool! :)

I changed the positioning and resized the frame to match the background image.
I dont have sasquatch... sas light wont work on the whole model (says its too complex) :( All that means is I have to find other ways to get the idea across. Velvet seems to work. I found a plugin called Furrify but its apparently not compattable with lightwave 8.not only that but if I want to use it with this model Ill need at least a GIG more of RAM(it dosnt like rendering in more than 1 segment). Well here's the latest. |
lookin' good dude... keep up the good work!:)
