My First Audi

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys! I decided to try modeling an Audi TT last night. This will be my first "hard" car project. I'm still a total noob at cars right now so here is my progress after 3 and a half hours.

colto 26-06-2004 07:19 PM

there are still a few minor problems at the bottom front of the car and on that strips that go above the windows.

sspikedudley 26-06-2004 07:22 PM

looking good all looks to be going fine no sure about the choice of colour lol good work upto yet

colto 26-06-2004 07:55 PM

color isn't what I am gonna use. It is just the gold preset attached to the whole model. I havent even started texturing yet. I'll post my 30 minute update now. all problem areas have been fixed. Please post C and C on the following pics!!!

very few polys....whats your tecnique ? i belive you'll be having trouble adding detail

colto 26-06-2004 09:30 PM

lol, those aren't my polys, those are the splines as I hadn't removed them from the model yet.

sspikedudley 26-06-2004 10:11 PM

looks like you have a crease on the front where the thrid spline is can we see a wire shade to get an idea of the model

colto 27-06-2004 12:03 AM

I had a bunch of little holes around the wheel covers so I adjusted the splines and am now re-patching the model. wireframe coming soon!!

R4s1n 27-06-2004 04:33 AM

Yea i noticed the same problem as Sspikedudley. I think the point of connection is bent inward.
Other than that you are doing very good.

colto 27-06-2004 05:09 AM

man, there are several new creases that have appeared but I have finally figured out how to get this thing patched with all of the points lined up so that I can merge them.I'll post some update pics soon!!!

UPDATE

Quick update. Some of the creases seem to almost disappear in this render. The main big creases I am worried about are the ones around the wheel covers.

colto 27-06-2004 05:50 AM

The main crease can be seen behind the front wheel covers but not the back, I will have to see how it looks with the final texture before I decide how much needs to be changed.

colto 27-06-2004 05:55 AM

Here are some crease close-up shots.

Here are some crease close-up shots. Any Ideas on how to fix them? It looks to me like I just need to adjust the splines until it final works right. Here is the front crease.

the rear crease is similar

A look from below the front wheel covers shows the crese much better

R4s1n 27-06-2004 06:24 AM

Some of the polygons are bunched together, this creates the creases that you have there. I would suggest to go and manually correct the flow of some of the polys.

sspikedudley 27-06-2004 11:09 AM

it looks like a case of what r4s1n said you also have to many polygons taking up the space for example around the rim of the wheel and the base you should be able to get away with two or 3 at the most polygons going downward

colto 27-06-2004 05:05 PM

But how could I make it with only 3 polygons going downward? If I do that then it wont merge correctlywith the 10 polygons that attach to it from different sides and I will have a bunch of holes in my model. Should I try totally repatching it with a lower polygon count?

colto 27-06-2004 07:04 PM

I think I just figured out how...

sspikedudley 27-06-2004 10:06 PM

delete all polygons that run round the lower rim and wheels archs then patch the whole thing again and do it with two or 3 polygons going downward

doncha_magoso 27-06-2004 10:36 PM

looks kind of weird... but enough to be a good start... looks smooth but those weird bumps do not help much... fine basic shape anyway!!!

Show us some wireframes dude

cheers!:-D

doncha_magoso 27-06-2004 10:38 PM

hehe sorry... didnīt see this second page... hehehe I thought there was only 1 page here

colto 30-06-2004 07:39 PM

Sorry guys, I've been so busy with stuff that I haven't gotten to work much on this. I cant figure this creasing problem out. Even when I make this thing with a low amount of polys it creates a wierd crease. I think it has to do with the way I have my splines done. I'll upload some photos of a couple of configurations I've tried, none of these seem to work!

colto 30-06-2004 07:51 PM

Wow, I just noticed that I did the wheel covers and side different on the back side than on the front side and I was able to easily remove the crease on the back side so I will try redo-ing the fornt end and seeing if I can fix the problem!

30-06-2004 08:57 PM

nice job dude, looks good so far

voices3d 30-06-2004 09:15 PM

Looks very good. You just inspired me to make a VW Beetle. I just got to get those damn computer parts in the mail. Your car looks good, i look forward to se the progress.

And here is the rear end. I have added mirrors, glass front fender details, exhaust, spolier, and thes spaces for the doorhandles. Post any comments or crits. Thanx!

doncha_magoso 02-07-2004 01:37 AM

looking fine man!!!

colto 02-07-2004 12:08 PM

I created some quick tires in 45 minutes that I plan to use. But the renders I made with them dont really show any of their detail so I will do a render of just the tire and post it later! Here are the new renders anyway though.

CRITS OR COMMENTS ANYONE?!?!?!?!

Fallenswordsman 03-07-2004 06:53 AM

Looks like you've managed to get a handle on those creases now. From the back view I'm a bit concerned how close the rear light is to the wheel arch. Looks a bit too close to me, but then again, I don't know what this thing looks like in reality. I don't know how easy it is to break down the components at this stage either as I've never done the whole car thing yet. Anyway, you're making good progress!

colto 03-07-2004 09:53 AM

ah, yes, the lights really are right around the rear lights.

colto 04-07-2004 03:17 PM

Fallenswordsman 04-07-2004 03:54 PM

Yep - nice looking set of wheels there with suitably smart looking treads.

colto 05-07-2004 04:12 PM

Hey guys! I think that I am gonna put this project on hold for a little while so that I can work on the animation challenge.

voices3d 06-07-2004 05:12 PM

Cars looking great :). Good luck on the challenge.
