hi, this is my 1st bike in Lightwave, just completed the engine,

c&c

cheers :)

PolarBear53 27-07-2004 08:13 PM

The engine looks to rounded at the bottom, a subpatch weight map could fix it, otherwise, nice work.

hello :P

got a problem guys

im making the back mud-gaurd and when i mirror it i seems to change, the bottom left view shows the original and the way it should look like but when it is mirrored it changes from 2 points 2 1 point like in the top right view,,,,,not sure what its doin,

cheers

colto 04-08-2004 05:39 AM

Hmm... It's not just the points at the top but at the bottom as well. Have u tried hitting the TAB key to turn the nurbs into polygons then mirroring it and then hitting TAB again?

davie563 04-08-2004 01:15 PM

i managed to get past it, what i did was mirrored it and then pressed 'n' then unchecked merge points :) it was then mirrored correct and i manually welded both sides together :P

colto 04-08-2004 04:40 PM

Good! I actually attempted to model this same bike before I realized that I didn't know near enough about motorcycles or how to model most of the parts. But watching you do this really makes me want to try and make one again!

colto 04-08-2004 08:53 PM

Oh, that bike is looking sweet. I accidentally made my Audi car update post in this thread instead of its other one, so I edited it but since I'm not an admin then I couldn't delete it.

thats the back done, now for the front ;)

:p

Fallenswordsman 07-08-2004 08:22 PM

Just wondering if the back red light is sticking out too much? I don't know what this bike looks like in reality, but that light does look fairly hefty at the moment. Best of luck with the front bit. This is looking pretty good so far.

Mark 07-08-2004 10:33 PM

This is looking so good so far.

I go agree with Fallenswordsman however that the taillight looks a little hefty. The indicators too if you compare it to actual photos of the bike (I assume it's supposed to be an HD-Softtail Fatboy - that's the closest match I can see on the HD website.

Try this link for some real-world references: http://www.harley-davidson.com/PR/MO...ection=gallery

cheers for the coments guys :p

Fallenswordsman & Mark u can see from the pic i have posted that the flashers and tail light do stick out quite a bit, if u are looking at pics from the harley site for reference u wont find then, this bike was made in 1987 its the Evolution range, ive included a pic of it from a book i have on the history of the harley davidson, and from this side angle u can still c the tail light sticking out at the back :p

hope this clears it all up :)

ill have an-update soon:cool:

Mark 08-08-2004 05:40 PM

Hmm.. I see your point. Although I do think that the taillight on your model is still a little too pronounced.

DigiMatt 09-08-2004 08:39 AM

Looks very nice so far, keep up the good work and keep posting updates.

Hi, im trying to get a nice render of my bike, but im new to lightwave, i really want to do a clay render of my bike, with a few close ups, just wondering if anybody could give me a small tut on how to set-up a scene and how to do clay renders

cheers ;)

colto 11-08-2004 04:39 PM

Clay Renders

Ah, clay renders! I would recommend that u download Eki's PlugPak here: http://www.kolumbus.fi/erkki.halkka/plugpak/

and then create a scene using the Overcaster plugin picking whichever lighting setup that u want(there is a tutorial on how to use overcaster on the site).

then

add your bike model and assign all of it's surfaces the same texture. I just use the default texture with a little bit of specularity added to it. Or if you're bike has way to many surfaces to copy and paste the new surface into each one then Open up you're bike in modeler and select all polygons and give them a surface named "clay" or sumthing 2 that effect. Then save youre bike as clayharley or sumthing like that. Then just add clayharley to you're overcaster scene instead of the original one, edit the clay texture as u wish and render. If you have any questions feelm free to ask! Hope this helps!

colto 11-08-2004 04:39 PM

BTW

BTW do u box model ur bike or use splines?

davie563 11-08-2004 05:45 PM

ehh, subpatch well i draw points then make polys :)

if anybody knows how to help, that would be great

what u guys think ?

Fallenswordsman 12-08-2004 06:31 PM

I like it although I would like it more if the tyres weren't bald. Looks really good though. One to be proud of.

davie563 12-08-2004 06:32 PM

yeah,, but how do i get the shadow to appear, is there a setting ?

colto 12-08-2004 06:46 PM

shadows

1 Attachment(s)
Is raytrace shadows turned on? It is under the rendering menu in Layout.

colto 12-08-2004 06:47 PM

diffuse

Also make sure that your ground texture has diffuse set to 100%.

colto 12-08-2004 06:49 PM

ambient off

Also, set ambient light to zero. to do this select one of your lights and hit p to open up its properties. then click Global Illumination button. Then set ambient intensity to zero.

cheers colto ill give that a try, i workin on the wheels, do u know how i can select all the pologons that make up the tread, i heard there is a way to select polagons by texture so i dont need to selct them by hand, if so, how do i do it :p

davie563 12-08-2004 07:37 PM

i heard there is somthin like Sel-By-Surface command which selects all the pologons with a specific texture, this would make selecting the tread alot easier, but i cant find it :(

help plz

colto 12-08-2004 10:07 PM

Hit the w key. (You must be in polygon mode) Select the little arrow next to Surf: and select the tread's surface. Then just click the little plus sign.
