Hey! Count me in on this one. I did manage to find some time in between work and all. Since this is a 2 month challenge i should be able to complete this. I intend top learn a lot of texturing which still tends to be my weak point... Anyhoo, i had a cartoon dino in my mind but just decided to mix up a stegosaur and some kind of a 2 legged dino. Havent thought of a name yet. Concepts below.

Sharp 03-08-2004 11:37 PM

looks nice but perhaps it might look better if it was more stood up then leaned over and with a small hump as if it was a musculer back or summat :)

dunno what you had in mind but thats just my thought

away from that glad to have you aboard.

okay, i did some really quick stuff here. I've got a basic model for the body that i've got below. I put a little thought into Sharp's idea, so i made modified him a bit. Tell me which one looks better. O and, i'm not really very happy with the tail. Any comments...?

Sharp 04-08-2004 03:02 AM

i dont quite understand they both look like a falcons head to me where your thing looks like a lizards head

Sharp 04-08-2004 03:03 AM

o i see its the body well i think the mouth is 5x to big do some quick 2 min legs to see but i thought the entire body was just the head

MeanPi2 04-08-2004 03:09 AM

Hmmm. Ok, the tail, horribly short and lacking gerth (diameter size). On the quick stuff basic model the mouth is huge and doesn't look like the concept at all. Load the concept image into modeller and trace with points or spines for an image rough?

The concept: love it in my own special dysfunctional way. Personally I'd enlongate the tail, keep the rear legs as they are for now, thin up the front legs and have it walk like a Baboon using the knuckles of the front arms. But that's me..

thnx a dozen guys for all the advice. I got around modelling some more and made out some legs for him. There still are some errors on the body which i'll fix later. I got a longer tail and a very slightly modified mouth.

Sharp 04-08-2004 08:34 PM

coming together i think but the mouth still has a huge feeling to me maybe it will look alrite when everything is in place :)

I'll calll it a day:tired: . I'll get some arms ready by tomorrow. and the head should look fine when all the pieces fit together.

Sharp 05-08-2004 01:16 AM

nice work on the spike and what ever there called *back spikes*

ozwolf 05-08-2004 10:49 AM

screen cap.

Zeeman 06-08-2004 06:45 PM

I don't quite know how to make dino hands. Could someone guide me in the right direction?

kumar 07-08-2004 01:12 AM

Do a search on what you want,,,say google or yahoo,,, and then do some concepts before starting to model.

bullet_evader 07-08-2004 09:48 AM

depends on what kind of hands you want to make!!! looks like big rough hands to me!!! but dont give him t-rex hands!!!

maybe give him some kind of human hands!! but with 3 or 4 vingers, and thinker and stronger vingers than human have!!

good luck!!

the foot itself took 3 hours to model correctly.:tired:

mtmckinley 09-08-2004 07:22 PM

Looking nice and beastly :)

Fallenswordsman 09-08-2004 07:41 PM

Aye, that looks a mighty fine foot. I like the way that the claws are looking as if they are growing out of the foot as they should be rather than just being some lazy extension to the foot. Are all the claws and toes of similar size here, because some just look a bit larger than others.

bullet_evader 09-08-2004 08:26 PM

looks nice, dont have critics about this one yet!!
keep on going!! I wonder how the head is going to be!!

s2-speedy 09-08-2004 10:09 PM

lookin gud mate. looks just like ur concept. i hate 2 crit, but i feel i should as it may help u. the hands seem a little human the way the fingers are rounded off, mayb u cud give them claws 2 like the feet. just a sudgestion. otherwise im impressed :D

keep it up.

Zeeman 09-08-2004 10:10 PM

Thnx guys.
I was trying to make the toes a bit uneven, Fallenswordsman, but not too much. i think its just the perspective that's making the right one look huge.

I was planning on giving him ape-like hands s2-speedy and possibly even fur, but i'll post a pic with claws or nails. Then we'll see how it goes from there...

kumar 10-08-2004 12:56 AM

Nice,,, but i would make the elbow joint lower,,, the proportions is off on them.

s2-speedy 10-08-2004 01:39 AM

OHH I SEE ZEE :D

I WAS THINKIN MAYB U WANTED IT THAT WAY AFTER I POSTED :)

ozwolf 10-08-2004 08:46 AM

coming along great mate, i like the way the hands rest on the ground! this is indeed an animal i would not like to meet.

sspikedudley 10-08-2004 10:04 AM

this is looking good i like your style i can see a connection to this and your creature from JUNE
now get some detail in the head :D
good luck
Rob

more detail in the head with smooth-shifting his mouth, adding teeth and fixing some minor errors. I'll add a tongue in there sometime tomorrrow and then get a UV map started with.

overall...

mtmckinley 10-08-2004 10:21 PM

I'm liking it! Nice job with the arms and legs so far.

bullet_evader 10-08-2004 10:27 PM

nice start on the head!! i like the eye!!! he looks really mad!!
his arms reminds me of gorilla-arms wich i think is a good thing

Zeeman 10-08-2004 10:39 PM

thnx!:)

I need major help on the UV map. IT's ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!:(

a small question:
(is it possible to rearrange stuff on the UV map to fit the way u want it?)

Techi 11-08-2004 07:44 AM

yes if it it created well.

try not to use an atlas map, you need to follow the 2nd method of the below link, iv posted this link so many times but its well worth the time to do. took me about 3 hours on my first model (500 poly human male unsubdevided) so this could be difficult to do in the competition time. still take a look as the uv is moved around to suit on this tutorial.

http://www.newtek.com/products/light..._UV/index.html

if you feel its too close to deadline to do i would say to do it after the comp ;)

sspikedudley 11-08-2004 09:42 AM

you could try a good way that doesn't leave any texture stretching and doesn't mess up your model at all
http://www.menithings.com/main.php?a..._id=7&manual=1
this is how i am doing my UV later

Techi 11-08-2004 05:47 PM

same method if you ask me

s2-speedy 11-08-2004 06:27 PM

nice model i like the feet :D

can i ask do u have 2 use UV to map in this comp cuz i was goin 2 use a normal texture i made

Zeeman 11-08-2004 07:46 PM

well, i've never actually done any proper texturing before, so I stink at all the techniques. And i noticed that a lot of people were doing UV's, so, maybe i should too! Normal textures, procedurals or whatever, wont give me the look that i really want. I was attempting to make it as real as possible, by me. But i have nearly two months to complete this model, which gives me enough time to try different things.

At the moment, i'm making separate Uv's for the toes.
