Hi.
"well done" :D |
Welcome Snap!
|
Great site, hope it works out for you all! Thanks for this resource and the work you have/will put into it!
|
The Ocean tutorial was very cool, though I was screaming at the monitor for Philip to click on the Texture Layer visibility in the one part (you know which part I'm talking about). We've ALL been there before. :D
Looks like another part of the LW community that I'll have to keep checking in on. (The boss is gonna like that :) ) Keep up the good work! Doug |
yep, antboy, I know exactly... :D
thanks for your kind words and welcome all |
Divx and Mac
(sorry if this is a repeat. My first attempt didn't seem to post)
I'm a sorry Mac user who can't play your Ocean tutorial. The "latest" divx codec for Mac is from August! Yours are the first I haven't been able to play since then. Well, I have the scene... |
how are they downloading? have they an extension?
|
They're AVIs. Like I said, these are the first I've had trouble with since August, I guess.
How new is your codec? |
all the latest codecs are available under the tuts...but mac hmmm
we are using divx 5.02.. hang on ill ask about on simplymaya as the mac guys have got the vids working there |
Zarathustra, get the latest from www.DivX.com I've been told it's an alpha but makes our videos work on mac...
keep us updated on this please. cheers, philip |
Color me dumb
yup, that did it.
Thanks. Sorry to be a bother |
you're not and I won't call you dumb!
glad it worked for you :) |
Is it possible for someone to Zip the Ocean scenefile and upload it? After three hours of downloading the first .AVI it just stopped.
I don't really want to try it again.... And i figure the scene file would only take a few seconds. Just an idea, as it seems half the world is trying to download the tutorials. And 1kb per second does not cut it. This is not a complaint, just a suggestion.... The site looks great, and i'm glad to have another Lightwave site to visit on a daily basis (you can never have too many) And especially such a nice looking one, with talented ops... |
Tripper, this actually is a good idea!
Check back in a few minutes. Our provider decided to maintenance their routers today, so sometimes the connection is briefly interrupted... sorry for the hassle, but you should definitely get the whole movies... sorry again. |
I just tried and was pulling a good 75 k a sec.... any others having probs with speed?
i do know though that since this sent up a few hrs a go we have had 144 people download every single movie file lol so it was hit pretty dam hard.. but welcome Tripper! and thx for you nice comments about the site |
Thanks Phillip...
Yeah i will actually download the AVI's ASAP.... It only had 5mins left and stopped. Arrrggghh!! And now everybody else is trying, as it's going to take 13 hours to download this time..... :( I will try to download them in a few days, when there is less people hammering your server.... I guess a few people have been waiting for them.... :) But again, thanks for the reply and the great website.... Love the look and colour scheme, and i hope it continues to grow. |
Thanks Kevin....
I'm not on Broadband on my current connection, just lil'old 56k The speed of the first download, varied but was acceptable. (especially as so many would be trying to download at once) But i just have limited time today....Could even just be my ISP.. Again thanks for the rapid response.... This site gets cooler by the second... Keep up the good work fella's Tutorials look great! (actually everything does) |
alright, there you go; the scene and object files are linked from the ocean tute download page now.
happy leeching. |

This is great! It's good to see another LW site!
I like the look of the site too. :) |
welcome Neural Riptide!! big thx for stopping by
|
Looks fantastic!
I'm another that came for the tutorial and stayed for the site. It looks great! If I had to make one suggestion, I might recommend a change to the CSS so that links had a subtly-different color from ordinary text--I can find the links but I keep feeling a certain "ga-boing!" when the text makes an obvious reference to a link that doesn't become plainly visible until you move your mouse over it. I realize that's a question of style, though, and maybe I should just get used to it. ;-)

manutter.. so sorry my freind! This is totally my fault..
I had started editing the fonts but was so tired from the release of the site (I was up for around 50 with no sleep) that I just died in my bed and forgot about it :D But I will crack on with it ASAP |
General Discussion
It seems like there should be a General forum. Just a place to have general discussion.
My 2 cents... :) |
Hi and thanks for the Great tute on the Ocean. It's nice how you've broken something that seems sooooo complex and made it easy to understand.
Thanks for adding a very worthwhile source to the Lightwave community!Hope people check this place out. |

Welcome mikala, DybiosH and Psyhke... great to see new guys post!
I hope in time you guys find SL the best lightwave place on the net! |
hi there!
that's my first post here... but ive already have a... hmmm opinion on one thing (excuse me my english - it's not my first language). i went to the competition thread... everything is kewl BUT... when ive read that my model will be downloadable... i thought "NO WAY"... and so... i wont participate in any of the competitions... just because of that stupid reason... kill me :( but i dont like this rule... cheers, verti. |
I can understand your thoughts.
Perhaps it should be changed to that anyone can download the models for use anywhere except for commersial work? just a thought. //Matt |
DigiMatt: that is exactly what is stated there:

So, vertiis, if you have a problem with people disecting your models you can still enter the monthly challenge. My thought on this is: hey, a bit of sharing doesn't really hurt, does it? I'm doing all these tutes (lots of them free), providing learning material and even made my JD Bottle model and scene available for download on my site... |
BTW: noone will kill you, vertiis, but close reading sometimes helps :p
|
My wrong! sorry, and I agree that sharing something back to a community like this thats given so much allready is just fun!
/Matt |
excuse me my english again...
what ive ment is that it should be an artist choice if he/she wants to allow others to use their models... hmmm... ill participate in the competitions for sure than :)... <- that is if deadlines of my commercial work will allow me to... satyr vertiis. p.s. it's great to see a place like this... |
Hey Phillip, well done on the great site!
Looks like we're going to have some great affordable learning resources coming to us! I just wish the Australian dollar bought a few more pounds!! |
Oh and also I second the call for a general discussion area... I think they are a good way to get to know each other...
:) |
