USS Defiant
1 Attachment(s)
USS Defiant from Star Trek DS 9! Model is incomplete. Will finish soon! I hope!:(
|
Very clean mesh! Looks a little high on poly count, but great work!
|
looks very nice so far Nail, good attention to detail :) keep it up
|
Very nice!
Can we see an unfrozen wire frame? |
High Poly count
1 Attachment(s)
The model is not frozen! High poly count for the amount of the detail that I will use later. Plus the screen save made the lines to thick. Oslo the model is not hacked, was built using splines. I do not use nor support Hacking. "Drills and Booleans". I study the models geometry first. Then use splines to create one unified mesh. Just Look at the Philip's Stratocaster Tutorial. The amount of Poly his using is olso very High. When I built my models I consider the shots that it will be rendered at, such as Close and Clean or Fast and Blurry, Game or Movie Res. Hacking thinks away is not the way the models should be built. Here some more shots of the Defiant. Pleese Note: some thinks are not attached yet and the model is incomplite!
Thanks All! :D |

Just out of interest, what exactly is the polycount on that?
|
Wow, it's soo cool!
I thought it was a Layout wireframe (Layout freezes subpatches) but it's really cool if it was done with splines It is still subpatched tough right? (some of it) I love the detail, very well done. |
My thanks to all of you! :D

Help!

Any body here know how to create the engine glow FX such as this one! Me and Layout don't get along to well. Texturing and Lightning is a mystery to me.
Sorry for the poor quality picture. |
Yep - check out this page - should be just what you need...

OMG!!! that is one slick looking model! I can't wait to see more!
|
That is just amazing!!!!
|
I sure hope you and Surface Editor get along. I want to see that pretty model finished, zipping around and firing those pulse cannons.

I have started to mess around with coloring. Just wanna see how
it looks with color! |
That is looking pretty awesome...
|
What do you mean by 'hacking' exactly?
|
Hacking?
1 Attachment(s)
Ok man here are two examples one is hacked. (I really like Your models man, they are clean and wire is excellent) . For example you wouldn't just sink the arms on the human Right! Or stick the jet engine right thru the fuselage of the Air plane! That's is what I mean by "Hacked".

Hacked!

Sorry
Don't get me wrong I have nothing against Booleans and drill. I use them also. I just did not explain my self clearly. So sorry! :D
|
Now that is a fine looking model! Hope you finish it too! I'd like to see that! :)

Texture
1 Attachment(s)
I have started Texturing my Model, the mesh is finally complete!
Pleas go Easy on my Texturing I'm new in this field. Texturing is not Finished yet! Can some one tell me how to create the Lasers and Shield damage in LightWave! Similar to what they do in Star Trek films. When the Lasers hit the shields it becomes visible. :) |
First of all let me just say this.... That is one DAMN fine model! Now onto the subjuct at hand...for the sheild thingy.... an elipse\sphere with transparent polys should do the trick... just use an envelope with an animated procedural on it (with gradient alpha channel) I used it once on a small animation as a test and it seemed to work well.... If I can find it I'll post it..... anyhoo that's how I would handle it.
Good luck! |
Thanks.
Thanks! I'm really glad that you like it.:D
|
that looks fantastic mate!
|
Beautiful! Bravo!:D
|
Nail,
Looks real nice so far. :) If you want any texturing references, have a look at: http://shark.warped.com/~matt/defiant.html. Hope they're of some use to you. Regards Matt |
WOW

Thanks matt! That model looks sweet!. I'm speechless! I have noticed when I did my research on the USS Defiant. I have found so many deferent versions outer. It is so hard to fined the actual one from the Star
Trek DS9. I have taped many deferent shots from the TV Series, and close examination reviled that even there Defiant is deferent from one Episode to another. :D Now, here is my question to you. How did you created the grooves in the model? Was that a Bump map? Or did you use some other technique. And how did you create the Warp Engine Glow? Please shear it with me if you don't mined. My texturing/lightning skills suck. |
Just another Test

Just another Test
|
Niall,
It's all bump maps. :) The Defiant is a fairly smooth skinned ship, so why bother wasting polys by modelling. Regards Matt |
Help!
Thanks Matt! Can you be more specific pleas! I have tryed the bump map, but it is not working for me as good as it did for you. How exactly did you do it! I have used Illustrator and Photoshop to create the texures! :(
|
You want to create said bump maps in black and white and as higher resolution as you can.
Most of the ones on the Defiant I have are around 3000x3000 or higher. Black and white maps use bugger all space so they work fine. Email me and I';ll provide you with a link to the model. regards Matt |
Thanks Matt
First of all I would Like to thank Matt for Providing me with in example of how to apply textures to the model. Thanks VERY MUCH MATT!
I'm almost done with texturing of my model. See ya! :D |
Ship
I never thought that Texturing is a such a pain in the ass process. It takes me a long time to get it done correctly. :(
|
There are many ways to texture an object, are you doing it with UV maps?
|
Nail,
I went back and redid the texturing. I managed to get someone to sample all the colours off the FI mesh. so.... http://shark.warped.com/~matt/images...defiant_10.jpg I'll send you all the colours you'll need if you like. :) Regards Matt |
Nail,
There is only one thing I can say………SWEEET, I must have a go at doing this sort of thing some time. Keep up the good work, Dae |
