Mar/Apr-Noob-Krull
Well...
Im working on an animation for film festival so I wont be able to start untill next week.... but ill try and get some concepts up A.S.A.P. |
Well Ive come up with an Idea....
Im gonna make a wood cutter.... yup you heard me a wood cutter (ya I heard there already is one but mine is gonna be a real robot) It's name T.T. Tree Terminator (ya name aint great) I think it's gonna have laser cutters, it's will have one laser designed to cut brances and stuff off as well. This beast will be able to go on road and off ( ya I know that's what it's suppose to do) it will have mechanical legs to move on the difficult terrain aswell as wheels or tank threads... I don't know if this idea is already taken on maya site but im pretty sure im gonna stick with this.. if there is a prob with nature and I get enough complaints ill retract idea.... oh ya BTW my scanners broken so ill have no concept you have to follow the flow... sorry =( |

Well..
This is my first non organic model project... I think im going to tackle this by building the frame piece by piece then putting in the motors and hydraulics... so here is a rough of the foot more to come tomarrow. |
Hey Krull! Looks like a good start to me dude!

here is another quick animation look... (sorry it's in wireframe had to get the size as low as I could also sorry about actuall size of animation getting it to 256kb is almost impossible)
|
Oh I can smell some major competition already. Let the games begin! Good work so far. Only crit is that the leg looks kinda "limp" in the animation if you know what I mean. But it is a test animation so its all good.
|
Also if you are having trouble with videos try doing this. Get an account at myfilestash.com then upload your video to there (8 MB limit) then just make a link here in the forum to your file. It's that easy and it eliminates any unwanted "squeazing down" of the video. Cheers!
|
Thanks colto for the website, that's gonna help out alot.
as for the limp leg, is it the animating of it or is it the model structure itself? give me more detail so I can fix prob, thanks :) oh here's a bigger version, still wireframe however.... it's 7.54mb http://www.myfilestash.com/userfiles...20somwheer.avi |
Modelling looks great. I meant that the lower portion of the leg( the part with the foot) seems to swing freely at a couple moments when it is extending/contracting. The movement isn't as rigid as a real machines might be. Kinda hard to really find anything to crit though. Looks great!
|
Thanks colto (good eye btw), I looked at it again and I see exactly what you mean, consider it fixed. I also got a question for you and everyone else that is, ive noticed that not many people are putting in motors or hydraulics or anything that would make it realistic for their robots to move.... Is that not required? and if not should I still do it? (Please all that read this take no offense im not throwing out insults, I am only lost)
|
It's not required but if you can model them it would probably help your chances.
|
u dont HAVE to have all hydraulics and stuff. It could be hidden away or whatever... but obviously, robots dont "magically" work the way they do  so putting in thingys such as the motors, hydraulics, wires etc. just add another sense of realism to the robot! And as colto said, "it would probably help your chances." ;)
|
I was just thinking about it and I believe that your robots "loose" look comes from your keyframes being set to spline rather than linear. You might try setting them all to linear in the graph editor and see how that looks.
|
the field of robotics has more to do with programming, rather than creating a huge machine that moves, my robot that I have chosen to do, does use motors and jet propulsion, to move, they are just not visible, but what makes a robot a robot is it's AI, if my robot was created in the real world, would use the same Intelligence Technology that ASIMO uses.
The key features of the new Intelligence Technology: 1. Recognition of moving objects 2. Posture/gesture recognition 3. Environment recognition 4. Sound recognition 5. Face recognition. you can read all about ASIMO here just my two cents worth Dae |
Hey
Sorry for not posting updates (no I wasn't dead or lazy) I was a bit busy working and contiuning to work on a school animation project..... No im not dropping out.... It's spring break and well yes im still working on the school project I found plenty of time to compete..... Ok.... First off I changed my Idea and model alittle... I Talked to a retired Lumberjack and he said the machines and equipment they use "It aint fanzy boy, nor is it pretty, it gets the job done and it don't break down when your doing it, and if it does break down it don't take a rocket genuis to fix it. Duck tapes all you need." Soooo.... after that I really didn't like my legs to much.. I did like the feet however and Im going to build off that. it is going to have mech legs aswell for rough terrain and wheels for the road. I originaly was going to make it "Fanzy" but now im going for really really rough and beat down (Although I think im going to leave the lazer cutter, because I want it to be alittle advanced in time.) Well Ill prolly have some progress photo's tomarrow or the next day.... (BTW thanks for putting up with my terrible english.) |

Here is a small idea off the actuall transport LumberTrucks
(My Robot is going to be the lumberjack and transport combined) |

Here is some progress on the body, it's a rough start but once I start to detail it out, it should turn out nicely (btw I got tired of the clay renders so I decieded to use cel shader, sorry if it offends anyone  )

Get rid of the cel-shaded renders. It hides detail and depth. Terrible for displaying models. Post a clay render and then we can see the real deal.

Well I rather enjoyed the cel-shader mixed with the back lighting... but that's only me :( ....
Here is some progress with the legs |

about the legs
hey i noticed from the side view that your robot's front and back legs oppose each other. Might this cause a problem when you try to animate it? What i mean is that the front legs' knees and the back legs' knees seem like they will get in each other's way. How would ur robot move forwards and backwards? Sorry if this has been discussed before or the answer is obvious.
|
Good question.
Well the reason I put the legs opposing each other, is because of the weight of the trees it would be harvesting, I wanted the weight to be pin-pointed to the center. (Of course in 3D there is no real weight so It is mainy there for detail) Ok as for the animating, there is no problem (I know this because I already tested, I am a test freak and must make sure everything works in the creation process) The bottom leg has 180 degree rotation, so when the first leg is in process of moving the 2nd back leg would follow shortly after and so etc..... A quick note: I did state that this robot will be set in the future but will almost be out dated, what I haven't decided is the speed and pace it moves,I was leaning torwards starwars AT-TE really slow with a bulky movement ( which I belive suits) but I have tested this sucker jamming,it looks quite interesting.... mb ill post it up and see what you guys think =) Hope that answers your question |

Well the Clock is ticking and time is running out....... I quickly modeled some wheels to see if the look was worth modeling the actuall on road wheel etc.. (but my idea was to make it have mech like and half truck). Well I still haven't decided wheater to cut it or actually put it in so ill let you guys decide for me....
here is a low polygon look of the wheels.... |

Well here's a side shot.... well do or die?

Hope you get done on time! :D:tup:

Ya Im going to be working untill the last minute on this bad boy :(
But it will be submitted before midnight tonight I promise you that! |
