July/Aug - Norm - Digitalshow

Hello everyone. Thought I would throw my hat into this one. I don't have any sketches yet...but I am imagining a graveside image with a skeleton arm/hand pushing forth out of a grave. In the boney hand is an old scary looking lantern...that lights up what the tombstone says. Just a rough idea...but thats where I am going to start.

admiralbcd 17-07-2005 09:41 AM

aha !
that sound a bit like the thing I'm doing too...except for the hand, I have a gravedigging setup....lucky you're in the norm section....
:p
look forward to see your progress.....

Ok...had a little time tonight to start on the project. This is only a small part portion of the whole scene....so as I get more ready I will post up more test renders.

:attn: Oh - just had an idea...instead of the lamp for the lightsource...(which came out ok...but I don't think its scary looking enough) maybe the skeleton hand is holding a lamp made from a skull instead? With the light coming from inside it?

Sounds like a cool idea, can't wait to see some WIP

Got rid of my lamp and replaced it with the new and improved "skull lamp". Created a quick dagger also for effect.:p

Going to start working on the grave/tombstone now.

Due to someone I will not mention...admiralbcd....;)
I am switching my concept to something else hehe.

Thinking about the cool tunnel thing (with a twist) that sake was talking about not doing.

admiralbcd 22-07-2005 06:54 PM

who ????me ????:p

good luck with your new ventures.....
I'd be glad if you do the tunnel, cause that idea is too good to be wasted...

digitalshow 25-07-2005 02:55 PM

He said he was cool with me doing the tunnel ... so I will start it tonight. :)

digitalshow 26-07-2005 04:17 AM

Ok...started on the tunnel. Here is my first test render...got a long ways to go. But it's a start.

nice start !!!
looks good even without textures.

here's a newbie question :
are those lights pointlights with lensflares attached to them or did you use luxigons or something else ???
( I'm trying to make my oillamp light  )

digitalshow 26-07-2005 08:00 PM

I need to check when I get home tonight...but I think they ended up being Point-Lights with lensflares with a wee-bit of volumetric effect to them...then I added a filter effect to the whole image with photoshop (to "degrade" the image some).

I am happy with how it is coming...but now I have to figure out how to make it more scary...

Thinking of a back-lit HUGE spider thingy coming out of a vent in ceiling? Or maybe pulling a person up into it?

sake 26-07-2005 08:14 PM

looks ace

digitalshow 28-07-2005 01:40 AM

Worked a little bit on the texturing and added some more details. Probably too much of the filtering effect but thought it looked cool so I posted it up. The spotlight in the middle (I am imagining - is going to come from a hand held flash light - to be added).

wow very creepy. Reminds me of Doom 3!

equinox 28-07-2005 06:46 AM

wow man looks nice already. what filter did you use to get that result?

Sharp 28-07-2005 02:08 PM

kool loking good :)

equinox 31-07-2005 07:20 AM

hey digital do you mind if i do this image for myself .not for the competition, but for my own personal learning . i just like your reference photo its like its calling to me and saying do me or die lol.

digitalshow 01-08-2005 12:16 AM

Hehe no prob. You can do it for the competition too if you want. I am just having fun getting to do a project in a group environment like this...in my town I am practically the only person that does 3d. :) Just fun to do projects with input from other like-minded people.

Oh the the filter was one of the artistic ones in photoshop...but I can never really remember which one...because I just scroll through all of them until I find one I like. Next time I post up another render I will make sure to note the filter/settings I used.

equinox 01-08-2005 12:56 AM

thanks man.

digitalshow 05-08-2005 01:37 PM

I have been gone for the last week at Siggraph . Love that L.A. weather...hate the jet lag. Going to try and get started back on finishing this project.

digitalshow 10-08-2005 04:39 PM

Here is my next stage. Added the "something bad at the end of the tunnel" phase.

Now...I really need to work on putting real light structures where my lights are....so they don't look like they are just floating up there.

Just back

Just got back power/internet access after Katrina and saw that our threads are not the final image posting place...but that I was supposed to post to other thread... bummer... I didn't think to check that. I don't think I had a winner (wasn't really finished yet)but did want to post it up there to show I worked on it.

Good luck to those who did get to post.
Thanks,
Tony B.
