Square up

Ok, I have a piece I am working on where i have smoth shifted a setion. But the only problem is that it rounds all outlying parts. I need the section to be square as it is a light that is resesed in a bumper, any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks
Sean

I'm only seeing the very bottom part of the screen shot - try it as a JPEG.

Sorry for the problems. I am pretty new to lightwave and I am having some other issues with this model but i am a perfectionist and pay attention to every detail so. I am going to be working on it for a while.

If you want to make an area look more square, then you could bandsaw the rounded polygons close to the area you want to look squarer. Maybe someone else can explain this better or has any better ideas?

Okay here's a box with a similar kind of smooth shift in it to illustrate the point...

Fallenswordsman 04-08-2005 04:23 PM

...and here's the same box with a bandsaw through the hole to square it off a little.... hope that helps to illustrate...

Added a couple more bandsaws to really square it out...

Nikon44 04-08-2005 04:56 PM

Ok that is great. That worked for part of it. Now the other part is the actual polygon opening itself needs to be square. You see how you have a circle I need it to be square? Any ideas on this.

I squared the flush mount surface to make it look smooth, I also did some fine detailing in place and thining the area. Now I need to square up the actual shape of the area. To make it look more square.

If it helps any, this is what I am trying to accomplish. The Yellow Square bumper Blinker.

Have you got any images of the car area you're talking about - just so we can see the kind of shape you're wanting to achieve?

Again, by adding geometry - possibly via bandsaw or the knife tool, you can shape the area you are looking at better.

Oh yeh, and check your PMs

second way is to modify the subpatch weight of points. I think the best effect will bring the combination of two metods - badsawing and working with subpatch weight - because in some situations setting weight value to 100% makes our model too low-poly. Here is the explanation:

I would like to thank you both very much the combo between bandsaw and sub weight I got my desired effects and its just about fine tuning the area now.
