Hi Folks,

Another project, another thread! This is for my Virtual Environments class, I only began modelling yesterday so it's a bit rough, but heres what I've got so far...

Mark 19-10-2005 11:22 PM

Not bad for a day's work though all the same...

hoopti 19-10-2005 11:24 PM

Looks like a great job with the wires. Love the apparent detail on the windows.

Close-up on the windows of the right annex. Buildings definitely aren't as much fun as characters ;)

davie563 21-10-2005 04:30 PM

:p i actually preffer In-Organic modelling over Organic :)

I just love building stuff like cars, planes, bikes, homes ect..

KrisYoung1980 22-10-2005 12:47 PM

A few more details been thrown in, I might make a start on the landscape now and come back to this coz i am sooooo bored with it.. mirror, bevel, cut, copy, mirror, bevel, cut, copy.... :headbang:

oops, forgot to add the pic...

davie563 22-10-2005 12:50 PM

lookin cool :p

Are u going for a cartoon type style ?

KrisYoung1980 22-10-2005 12:52 PM

somewhere in between i think, not decided - depends how the texturing goes...

davie563 22-10-2005 12:55 PM

i think cartoony would look nice, the bricks up the corners give it that feel i think. Are u going to have traditional english gardens as the landscape and a big stone runway ?

JohnD5000 22-10-2005 03:28 PM

Cool.
Is it based on a real building?

KrisYoung1980 22-10-2005 03:31 PM

Very loosely based on some old elevations I found while I was trawling the web but the actual building is far to complex for me to attempt.

davie563 22-10-2005 05:30 PM

come on, get all the detail into it !

Lets see some of the elevation pics u used, :attn:

Fallenswordsman 23-10-2005 10:15 AM

Looking very nice...hee hee - now lets see some roof tiles ;)

KrisYoung1980 23-10-2005 11:05 AM

Strange you should say that Fallen, I was just toying with the idea of modelling them individually.... maybe ;)

Fallenswordsman 23-10-2005 04:53 PM

Actually, joking aside, you may well be able to create them using the clone tool, just as long as you know the measurements of each tile and can get a decent enough crossover, then it might look pretty good with fairly minimal effort - the only problems will come when you hit corners.

When it comes to the corners, just use those rouned tiles that run down the seems :p

U see them alot on old classic buildings

Started messing about with some textures - roof looks well dodgy, but i've fixed that now, just cant be botherered re-rendering so you'll just have to trust me ;)
Really havent done too much except slap them on so I'll be tweaking settings for the next wee while...

davie563 02-11-2005 09:53 PM

:p cool :p

Im workin on my textures the now aswell, its really hard the texturing bit :headbang:

Lookin cool :p

Looks like a Golf Club House :p

Fallenswordsman 03-11-2005 07:22 AM

Yep, looking very nice - I know it would probably drive up poly count to stupid proportions but it would be nice to see some proper grass :)

KrisYoung1980 03-11-2005 08:33 AM

Never fear! The groundplane is just a placeholder as I haven't modelled the landscape (or the interior) yet, it's next on the list to do, but I couldn't be bothered last night - hence the texturing...

bullet_evader 03-11-2005 12:49 PM

The textures are repeating to much. try to give them some more variation.

KrisYoung1980 03-11-2005 01:14 PM

Yeah it is a bit too tiled really isnt it, I was thinking about painting up some custom textures but i'm a bit of a photoshop numpty, might give it a go anyway...

kilvano 03-11-2005 03:09 PM

Try some of the dirt maps on it too. May make it look a bit more realistic.

Chris

JohnD5000 03-11-2005 06:58 PM

Even just random it up a bit more! There's lines of darker bricks going round the building, maybe look better if they were a bit more scattered.
I thought though that it looked good before the texture, kind of reminded me of Whitehouse type walls! You went a bit more old looking materials than I thought the building looked by it's shape. Still no bad though.
Maybe the pillars look a bit out of place with they textures too.

Had a complete nightmare and had to remodel the entire building exterior because of various school boy errors so I'm sick fed up of it, instead I've been working on the interior. Textures still need to have detail put in them. Its based on a tutorial for mansion halls thats floating aobut on the web as I'm sure most of you recognise although I have modded it a fair bit...

davie563 15-11-2005 09:19 PM

Nice to see some pics from u again..... :p

It looks nice. With some dirt/bump maps on it it will help make it look real

Keep it comin

The floor thou, im not to keen on it, just dosent fit or follow a patern

KrisYoung1980 15-11-2005 10:02 PM

Yeah, the floor is pretty much a place holder til I work out what i want to do, the tute has parquet flooring down, I'm not sure how heavily penalised I'd be if I used that... As far as dirt maps etc go, thats the detail I'm talking about, still trying to plan it all out, just thought I'd better post something so everyone knows im still alive! ;)

davie563 15-11-2005 10:19 PM

lol, so did u actually model this interior ? or is it somthing u downloaded and are just texturing.....

KrisYoung1980 15-11-2005 10:22 PM

Yeah, I thought things were going far too well for me at university so I thought I'd throw in a bit of plagiarism to spice things up a bit.... of course I modelled it :P

davie563 15-11-2005 10:42 PM

lol, so what u on about then........

KrisYoung1980 15-11-2005 10:44 PM

I'm on about using the parquet flooring texture for my floors...

davie563 15-11-2005 10:55 PM

u got a link to the Tutorial ?

KrisYoung1980 15-11-2005 10:56 PM

It's a .pdf, I'll show you it tomorrow

Quick test render of the new version of the building partially textured...

Fallenswordsman 20-11-2005 05:24 PM

Looking very smart so far - keep going :)

davie563 20-11-2005 05:37 PM

Looks cool Kris.

There is somthing about those Bricks that go up the corners that i just dont think fit. The building dosent look cartoony but those bricks try to make it that way because they look very round. If u look at building like the 1 u have modelled those bricks that go up the corners only stick out a little bit and usually have very sharpe edges.

Other than the bricks, the textures, lighting and render itself are lookin sweet !

keep it comin

The building is supposed to be keeping in line with the style I've been using for the year, i.e. Bruce, Jackie, Noogle etc, shouldn't look out of place in it. I think the bricks on the corners, around the windows etc help with that so thats why they're there, I guess I've screwed up the rest of the model though if it doesn't fit with the bricks. Oh well, too late to start again!
