Renderosity's contest wip
 

On renderosity is currently running a contest: Create a creature built out of water, earth, wind or fire that is much stronger and mightier than human.

This is what I've done so far:

Those were sketches (first one ever made)

Started modeling with poly by poly technique and a lot of beveling. This is what I have so far. I'm a little affraid off the face so I didnt do anything on it.
Guess I'll start texturing like it is now and we'll see where we get.

It's my first "character" I'm modeling and I know its not a really clean mesh but I'm doing everything I can and know.

Here is a fast testrender I did yestrday after allmost two weeks struggling with the voxels to create (descent)fire.
Dont mind the rest of the scene, all that matters is the beast.

that's not a bad start; keep tweaking the fire, I'm sure this will turn out great!

BTW moved the thread to the WIP section :D

and a little update, tell me what you think so far.

Wozz, I have to say... It's looking great! but It's looking like a mixture of earth and fire...LAVA!!! bwahaahaaa!!! why have one elemental when you can combine two!!! looking good, keep it up!:D

Or... give it a guitar (Phil - Hint hint!) and an afro and you could have Earth, Wind and Fire ... :D

HEY WOZZ ! I know that the comp is over now but to save you some embarressment, the rules actually state that the image will be disqualified if posted in other public or private forums (Becuase it loses its anonimity and can affect the vote).

THAT SAID< I'ts a great image and a cool idea :-)

Well the contest is still open. It ends 30st, so I still can enter the contest and yes I'm going to enter.

I have no idea why I should be disquallified from the contest, there is no rule stating I cant post in other forums than renderositys one.

And may I ask you why I should be embarressed? I'm a newbie trying to learn LW and trying to improve my skills, is it that why I schould embarressed?

I talked to the organisation, and there was no problem posting here, so I guess you were looking at the wrong contest.

Doh! My most humble apologies Wozzyke! I am somewhat braindamaged or simply stupid and didn't intend for that message to read anywhere near as bad as it did.
You are obviously correct and I AM A DWEEB of great proportions. I got my Renderosity comp mixed up with my 3dluvr comp and I think also the Renderosity LW GROUP COMP all of which were about elementals and mythical creatures in the last or current period. :-)
I'm glad that your one is still open and I THINK AS I said, your idea and image are looking good so go for it!

Just in case you do enter a 3dluvr comp here is paragraph 4 of their rules: :-O (by the by I think more wavers should enter and show those max dudes a thing or two...)

All submissions must be original to this contest. Submissions should NOT be submitted work from past contests on other web sites, already displayed at galleries, or be past paid work. In other words, if you were paid to do it; have been working on it prior to this contest, or updated an existing image, you should NOT submit it!
This also means that you must NOT show your image (sketch, work in progress or finished) to the public before the contest is over, or you will be disqualifed for foul play and unfair practice towards other contestants.

Wozz, keep it going man...you're lookin' good! You're next image though lets see you push the textures.....just kidding...I know you're new at the lightwave deal.... have fun, and enjoy all the free flowing info from any of our forums....:)..ps... I would like to see a little more creativity in the texture area.

Let me tell you something quaoar,

It was meant to do it a different way. I would also like to see other textures, problem is, that the deadline is today.
And I've been rendering all night ans still going.

But the biggest problem was the LW refused to work yesterday and I needed to reinstall 5 times before it worked correctly.

I can assure you that no fun at all, so it will stay this way I gues. problem also is I havnt found much textures.
