July/Aug - Noob - Colto

Well I wasn't planning on entering the contest, but I got "suicidal egg" and thought I might be able to make something cool. Concepts coming later. What are your ideas?

P.S. It's good to be back at SL after being absent for the past year.

Fallenswordsman 06-07-2006 06:36 AM

Fantastic to see you back, Colto!

Suicidal egg eh? For me that kind of brings to mind a sort of Humpty Dumpty character - you might want to follow a few avenues here:

1) Classic Humpty on top of a wall with characters down below watching as he attempts to jump

2) Egg holding shotgun in hands having just blown away the top of his shell with yolk and eggshell bits surrounding him

Those are my ideas anyway...

I like your ideas Fallen.

I was originally thinking about doing a scene with an egg that has a bomb strapped to him running into a partially destroyed area that already has yolk splattered everywhere with pieces of eggshells and debris around. However I didtched that idea because I didn't know if it would be taken offensively or not due to recent events involving terrorist groups.

Sooo, I switched my idea to having an egg who has just comitted suicide in the center of a circle of other eggs gazing on in horror. Here is my concept. I will be adding the suicide weapon and props/scenery in 3D.

Fallenswordsman 07-07-2006 06:20 AM

Excellent concept there - love your idea better than mine anyway!

Ok here is my detailed concept. Also the start of my modelling of the blender.

In the scene the egg will be jumping into a running blender as the other 11 members from his egg carton watch in horror.

Crits and Comments please!

Nice concept colto!

I must admit I prefer the first one...

I've made some changes in your first image,
hope you don't mind:

colto 12-07-2006 05:49 PM

Haha I LOVE it. Don't be surprised if I switch to something similar :)

cgrein 12-07-2006 08:43 PM

I'm glad you liked it.

cheers

I think that you might need to put a twist on the first pic you posted, as wouldent you be copying an existing picture not creating something new? (unless of course you took the original picture picture in the first place)

colto 16-07-2006 12:04 AM

Now my question is: How would an egg commit suicide?

Would he jump off of a coffee can and just go splat?
Would he jump into a skillet?
Would he blow himself up with a firecracker?
Would he use some type of kitchen utensil?

I can't decide. What do you guys think?

Ok I decided upon the skillet idea. I have modelled the skillet and now all it needs is more texturing work. Here is a quick render and some wires.

Here are some salt and pepper shakers that will be somewhere near the stovetop. I plan on modelling the whole countertop and cooktop + all of the CSI and spectator eggs and maybe some type of "CSI van" made out of an animal cracker box or something.

And here are some wires again...

Ok so here is what I have for the stove so far. Anyone see anything that it needs? Or do you think it is fine how it is?

cgrein 17-07-2006 11:29 AM

It's fine to me.

I'm with cgrein, except one thing
The holes for the gas to come out...

Not really sure how big the holes need to be so it's just a rough drawing

colto 17-07-2006 06:15 PM

Hmmm, my stove(the one that I modelled this after) doesn't have holes that are visible. They are under the black disks. Should I model some anyway? I'm not really that worried about it as not much of the stove will be in the picture.

nice progress!

nope don't worry about it.

Fallenswordsman 18-07-2006 06:30 AM

I wouldn't worry about it too much - if anything you could always fake it later by putting little black disks over your model if it looks wrong when you come to render but with competitions like this when you have a time limit, its best to do as much as possible then worry about the tiny details later.

Ha ha - some great ideas colto - well done for thoroughly thinking it through and coming up with a number of alternatives. This should be a great project - looking forward to seeing it develop.
