s2-speedy - summer challenge - Pirate vs Ninja

hey all, im back again - didnt finish the last challenge :( so had 2 come back cuz this 1 sounds like fun and really wna complete it.

im not a noob 2 modelling but im a noob to modelling Full people (heads body arms legs etc) never completed a full person b4 so this should b a challenge.

THOUGHTS .

had a few ideas to begin with but i kinda like the sound of a female pirate and a female ninja in a battle pose - if i get time 2 do both that is.

concept comin soon - might even change ideas.

cya soon :)

thanks mike :)

started work on the actual model now - begun with the head, has a bit of detail with the nose, and mouth completed but still need 2 work on the eye section wiv creases and a eyeball.

She doesnt look very piratey just yet but the additional features will be made later. :D

Fallenswordsman 17-06-2007 08:03 PM

Looking great so far  Just wondering if the ear needs tilting back ever so slightly? Also I would pull the lower lip back slightly as well.

mtmckinley 18-06-2007 12:16 AM

Perfecto 19-06-2007 12:43 AM

Hey, thanks for showing your head wires! I think you concept and model are looking really nice. I'm looking at the knuckles on the hand where it tapers down as your going toward the wrist. It looks like the tapered part is too long maybe (just something that jumped out at me). Oh, and you draw really well too. Concept drawings are nicely done.

s2-speedy 19-06-2007 09:34 AM

hey perfecto, thnks for the comments. your right bout the knuckles i kinda noticed it too, its still a WIP so i was goin to work on that...jus glad sum1 pointed it out also :D
Ill prob have some more concepts coming soon, for final poses or a colour test b4 i do it all in 3D.

Im lovin this challenege thou, been modelling on it everyday so far think im gettin a bit ahead of mself, theres another month 2 go yet :D hehe

i modelled some bits n bobs now with the hat, bandana and the eye-patch - not sure what ill b using on the final render but ill model it neway so i got it just in case.

i decided to post a render this time - colours rnt final. its just a base colour and not textured. comments or Crits?

Perfecto 21-06-2007 01:04 PM

Are you going for realism? If so, I think making the ears a little bigger might help. In most people, the bottom of the ear lines up somewhere between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip. Doing so will also change your character's jaw so if you did make the change it would probably mean lot's of work.

I think it's still looking really good though.

s2-speedy 22-06-2007 11:42 AM

i was kinda goin 4 a cartoony realism if that makes sense.
this is my 1st full female character so i didnt wana go 2 realistic.

its hard 2 explain but ull see at the end. :)

the bottom of the ears does line up wiv the bottom of the nose, i used reference. but thanks for ur advice. :)

Perfecto 22-06-2007 01:03 PM

That does make sense to me and if your modeling continues as it has, you're going to have a pretty awesome model when you're finished.

s2-speedy 23-06-2007 12:38 AM

thanks perfecto :D ive been quite impressed how its turnin out so far, the real test will prob be the clothes now with the creases and stuff.

Will show more progress soon.

Great progress!

s2-speedy 08-07-2007 02:39 PM

thnks mike :)

here i have tried different types of clothing to get different looks... im not sure which 2 go with. the 1st one looks a bit tomb raiderish, 2nd one is my concept art, im not sure whether to drop the jacket thou. ignore the colours if you can :)

leroy3rd 10-07-2007 03:54 PM

I like 2 and 4. :D

-LeRoy3rd

s2-speedy 10-07-2007 03:57 PM

thanks 4 ur opionion leroy3rd :) much appericated.

KrisYoung1980 10-07-2007 04:12 PM

I personally would go with 3 with some sort of open leather jerkin or waistcoat over the top, something like that - Excellent work what ever you decide to go with though, looking forward to seeing the end result!

P.S. typed jerkin into google images to give you an example of what i meant and immediately regretted it! ;)

s2-speedy 10-07-2007 04:16 PM

hahaaha cheers also kris,

yeh i like the jacket idea just not sure bout the jacket i made so might redo it or modify it. or mayb it wud look better once textured. thnks 4 the input :)

Perfecto 10-07-2007 06:03 PM

I like the clothes style of #4 and I like the color scheme of #2. You're model is really turning out great!

Perfecto 10-07-2007 06:08 PM

Maybe you could try on some gold hoop earrings like the character on the cartoon movie "Sinbad"

s2-speedy 11-07-2007 07:34 AM

thnks perfecto, she does actually have 1 looped earing in her left ear but u cant see it from the shots cuz her hair is in the way.

more progress comin soon :)

AlphaFlyte 11-07-2007 10:13 AM

Hey Speedy, really nice work. I liked all of the apparel but 02 and 04 stood out more indeed. To help with more options and the decissions for the clothes I think it can be a good help to think deep into who the character is and what her motives are, and let that drive the designs. Make a mini backstory for her on paper and who knows, some really interesting ideas for visuals might pop up.

gster123 12-07-2007 01:22 AM

Nice going man, be keeping me eye on this one!

s2-speedy 12-07-2007 12:55 PM

Thanks for the feedback people :D

ALPHAFLYTE - thanks for the help with that - wen i started drawing her i was thinking of her 2 b just like a pirate thats a crew member and not like a captain or anythin - just wanted her to be a bit sexy and mysterious, but i may look into more of a character 4 her as it cud help like u say.

GSTER123 - cheers for the comment, urs is lookin great i been keepin my eye on yours too :)

I decide to do some work on the scene until i figure out what to do with my pirate, im planning on havin her in the crows nest - although other ideas i had were sittin in a cave with treasure chest or just sittin on the deck of the ship.

heres the progress of the scene anyway :) still WIP

mtmckinley 13-07-2007 07:29 AM

Definitely becoming quite the contender! Hope some more LWers get going to enter the comp with you. Keep up the great work!
