Sandman September/October
I think I'm going to try this one. I'm Still considering ideas, The strongest one is a Post Appocolyptic Suburbia. I want to do something different, unexpected. Still thinking... I plan to start modeling tommorow... we'll see what happens.

Best of luck!

took me a little while to start up. The idea that I'm going for is Suburbia Apocalypse. First step is to build the before environment (just before the end), Then I dirty it up a bit then just see where the chaos takes me.
This is the first of the houses. I designed it according to memories of my childhood home. |

It's been a few days since I worked on it. Been lazy really. So I'm getting things done.

As it is there doesn't seem to be much of a point posting anything over here. If it wasn't part of the rules I think I'd stop posting @ the Maya site too. Anyone asks, I'll be happy to post the latest progress.
|
Post away, I love seeing the progress in these competitions!

Since you interested, here you go. I've been working on the UV for a while now. The biggest stumbling block is the brick pattern. If I just had a flat plane It would be OK to use but wrapping around corners changes the pattern. So I've spent the last week or so drawing all the bricks. I think this will work out better in the long run because I will have the morter as a separate layer. I can manipulate it easier. Well more to do. I'll post again soon.

By 'eck ... how on earth are you managing to build that brick texture without your eyes bleeding???

still deciding if I want to make More variations on the different Houses or go for the clone-esk idea.

Starting to shape up nicely here, Sandman - I didn't really comment on the UVs as, whilst they are an important part, it all just ends up looking like red and white squares to me.
|
This is looking GREAT!!! So glad to see your progress.

Looks like somewhere where I've spent a holiday before.
Nice work there, Sandy - I thought the wall looked a bit thin at first but then considering the scale of the thing, I think you've got it just right. |

thanks.
Particle FX added. Anything else you think I could do? |

I'm just wondering if the brickwork looks a bit too intact on the remaining wall, maybe breaking it up a bit might help - and perhaps a little rubble?

I gave your advice some consideration.

Yeah I like the direction you took it, I think its a lot more interesting, and a lot more ruined now to say the least.
The fade between the pre and post was a cool idea. I didn't even recognize some of the post elements until I saw the fade. I think leaving a couple of the columns still standing would be a nice idea, and would give you give you a visual element with a different texture set against the burned out building creating an area of interest. Also, maybe having one of the upper facade sections, one of the ones near where there's still a little roof, still recognizable would be cool addition, and help make it more easily recognizable as what you started with. Nice work on the all the frame work of the house, I'm sure that was a tedious at the very least to do. It looks quite well done. Nice work. Looks really well destroyed. |
Thanks, A lot of thought went into the concept. imagine a global scale event that is capable of drastically changing the environment. Assuming the possibility of survivors. anything that can be easily moved and burned would be gone. The world has moved on, the remains slowly fade away.
I did think about a lot of the ideas you had. Unfortunately its too late to do anything since the comp is over. Thanks again, I'm glad you like it. |
Been offline without net access for a few weeks. Have to say I really like the way this one shaped up.

Thanks, BTW there is a poll over at simply maya, show your support, vote .:attn:
