I have a turning wheel and I want a rod attached to it so that the rod goes back and forth like the steam cylinder of a locomotive. After a 180 degree turn of the wheel the rod is at the utmost right (or left) position and after a 360 turn the rod should be in the begin position.
After hours of trial the rod still turns around with the wheel....
Help please

Why do you bore me with unwanted advertising?
That's not what the forum for is!

Thanks to Leroy3rd for pointing out the spam, it has been removed....the only problem is now everything has changed, I don't know how to ban people any more.

Hey Jozefus are you still in need of help for this question?
If you still need help can you post a picture of what you are doing and where the pivot points are.

See the picture: To get the rods moving the right way I made a keyframe on every frame while positioning all the parts in place. There must be an easier way: rod 1 being a slave of the wheel and rod 2 being the slave of rod 1. But i've no idea how to do that.http://s2 en s3 videoraid/lightwave/...ning wheel.jpg

hey Jozefus, here's a tutorial that will explain these steps much much faster than i would. But the idea that you need is very close to this piston tutorial.
Piston Tutorial

Thanx alot! That was a great advice, exactly what I was looking for.
It has really helped me to make the animation as I wanted.

R4s1n 03-12-2012 12:34 AM

No problem! Can you post the animation when you' re done? Unless of course work prohibits you to share...

jozefus 10-12-2012 11:39 AM

Although it has helped me to better understand IK, I didn't succeed in getting my animation working. I carefully followed the instructions but the arm doesn't follow the head. In stead the arm turns round with the head! The piston shifts OK while the head is turning, but there's no staying connection with the arm. I must be overlooking something but I can't find what.

R4s1n 11-12-2012 02:25 AM

How is the parenting hierarchy? Does the arm have a limiter on it? Kind of hard to say with not having a scene to disect.

jozefus 11-12-2012 04:23 PM

Is it possible to send you the objects and the scene to analyze what I'm doing wrong.
I must say I feel a bit ashame that I'm not able so far to solve this problem.
I tried several hierarchies but no results. I must start now another project having a higher priority so it will take some time to go further with the piston project. But I need to get it working.

R4s1n 12-12-2012 01:23 AM

ill pm you my info.

jozefus 02-01-2013 10:59 PM

Do you have any information about the scene? I can understand if it's too much work for you! I'm glad that you intended to help me and I really appreciated that.

R4s1n 03-01-2013 04:23 PM

I've taken a look at it before the holidays and didn't have any luck with it.
I haven't given up yet but I also haven't had time to look through it more.
