Hi guys
Okay myself and Philip included have received mails regarding the payment of the VIP movie area. All the guys that have downloaded the latest guitar part and Front Projection will be reimbursed a point as we have moved them to 2 points. This was an error on my side looking at the file size instead of the movie time so apologise to all. Right on to more serious matters, I have been through all this at Simply Maya before and expected the same here so its time to explain a few things. 1. This site to run cost a LOT of money 2. We give away a selection of free videos and will continue to do so. 3. The VIP area is for those people who want more! 4. Guitar tutorial = so far over 2 hrs of info. So far that would cost you 8 points which = £8 Try to buy a video or cd for this 5. You don't have to join the VIP area! 6. The VIP area is what enables everyone to have the FREE tutorials! 7. We prefer this way is it gives the LW user so much- I wish there was something like this when I was learning Maya 8. We don't want the site COVERED in banners / pop ups / advertisements in newsletters as we are bombarded with this from EVERY other site on the net! 9. We kept an open forum so that LW users can learn together. This is a fantastic site with many great features.... you don't have to be a VIP member to enjoy it. ---------------------------------- Any way guys....this is not an "angry" post just something I feel we needed to explain before it got out of hand. Hope this clears up a few questions you all may have All comments and feedback will be warmly received |
Are you going to do a deal like some other sites where the more you post and do stuff on the site you can earn points?
|
Yes like Simplymaya - where we see someone helping others and contributing to the site then we shall add points as we see fit.
Also we have the model competition and the challenge areas where points can be won. We wont give points on just "amount of posts made" as this will just incourage people to spam the board :) Thanks for you input Kaiser |
would be cool
and would like that idea as I am a student and the money isnt coming out of my arse every hour. wozz |

sorry.. but I just had to //Matt |
How bout if I make a tutorial on something? Not any ol' tut on a cube, but something worthwhile? Would that be a worthy contribution?
|
I am a member on the Simplymaya site and it works the same way as it does here and let me tell you it works great:)
Just site back join some competitions and help people and you will do ok. also I do beleive that if you are a noobie thier is a noobie catagory and a regular catagory so you still will have a chance to win. |
I agree. I've been using LightWave on and off now since Version 6 (I was a defector from TrueSpace). Since I'm not actually a 3D professional, I find that getting the time to actually sit and learn LightWave is tremendously difficult (it's powerful, but not entirely user friendly for a newcomer...)
Yes, there are books available (at around £30-£40 apiece) that range in quality from utter crap (a waste of £30-£40) to absolutely invaluable (Inside LightWave for instance). Yes there are tutorials on the web (most are free, but sometimes they assume too much - or too little), and yes there are videos (usually costing many $$ - and only available to UK residents on import) but those then have the problem in that the video recorder is not handily adjacent to the PC  So, a site like this where good quality video tutorials can be downloaded for a relatively small amount is an absolute godsend. I'm not finding myself investing huge sums of money on paperstock where you need to follow a set of written steps (so you can't see exactly what the author was doing when he wrote it), I don't need to worry about running backwards and forwards between the TV and the PC pausing videos (also having spent a huge wad), and since the tutes are video, I can see exactly what was intended. So, guys, keep 'em coming (and as soon as I've worked through the freebie sections - sure I'll be buying points with no complaints - I wanna try the strat and the McLaren :D ) Regards, Mark Oh yeah, and I'm not affiliated with this site in any way either (in case anyone got the impression from the big up above).... |
Thanks mark.. a nice post
And thank you for your support! |

So the video tuts for simply lightwave will only come from Philip many thanks for the input any ways kaiser |
I only found the site today (via a link from another tut site), but I am really impressed so far. As soon as I can afford it (I am currently unemployed and saving up to bring my girlfriend from New York to the UK for a holiday) I fully intend to become a VIP member.
And yes, the lack of popups is briliant :) |

We spoke hard and long on this at SM and we decided against it. Sure people can do tutorials but they cannot be hosted here. We have a tutorial plan for the next 3 months. If we allow one to do it everyone will do it. |
how about tutorial Suggestions, on future tutorials that phillip can make, if we email the tutorial to you guys to look at and maybe approve of the tutorials for future stuff.
there could be some good input on tutorial suggestions, i have on other lightwave forum sites asked if someone could make a tutorial on some thing that was really hard to do and i wanted to learn how to them. because you post a question on something and well you get allot of feedback on howto's but sometimes its easier if someone could make a tutorial on it. does this make any sense ??? thanks and a great site so far i like it and i have learned allot allready by reading some of the posts. Thanks |
makes perfect sense, happened already! :D
take that compositing tutorial in the FX section; started as a question on the board, the next day I had the tutorial up :D so let's hear what you want to see. |
The cost in points vs what you get is immesurable 50$ for a 60 min video or a few dollars for hours of high Quality teaching.
Keep up the good work guys this is my Home Page:) I would LOVE to see a tutorial on your Peppers. http://liquid-arts.de/gallery/Peppers.htm |
I second the request for a pepper tutorial!
Along those same lines, I'd also like to see some tutorials on photorealistic texturing. |
I agree wholeheartedly that these videos are worth the money. I like these kind of video tutorials that go from start to completion. Philip is also a very talented artist, he pays a lot of attention to detail in modeling and final render output which I like. Just look at the final render of his Stratocaster or any of the images in his gallery for that matter. You see images done by people and think I wonder how they did that and these video tutorials show you how.
Keep up the great work Kevin and Philip |
Philip,
I would love to see a tutorial on an inside or outside building render. Like the one you did titled Physical Fitness Center Lounge. That would be great to learn those kind of lighting and radiosity techniques. MarkR |
The VIP videos are DEFINITELY worth the money, as some of the other guys have said , go see how much it costs to buy a LW training DVD, its normally $50, and I have yet to find one that shows me how to model a Strat or McLaren F1 ;)

When will we get those two points back?
|
intellectual property
This question deals with the control over what we upload for your hosting. If the modeler decide that he no longer wants to share the models that he uploaded as it is his intellectual property, there is no way of removing them outside of asking you guys to. Just like you guys make money in your vip sections, if I make a SUPER model and decide to give it away which I will likely do, and someone decides to buy it and all the rights to go with it, then I will have to pull it and if I have to wait for admin to take their sweet time (which has happened at other sites!) then it could ruin what the individual is trying to accomplish.

1. Im afraid this is something you will have to consider carefully before entering. From our point of view what is to stop people entering then winning the points and then asking for there model back? - You will add your own disclaimer in the file stating only for tutorial use and not commercial. So please dont enter models that you may want to retract at a later date. 2. Q. Just like you guys make money in your vip sections A. This is a competition - you enter , you win, you are rewarded. 3. Q. I will have to pull it and if I have to wait for admin to take their sweet time A. Well we are pretty quick on this board but please dont enter if you feel this way. I will make it clearer in the disclamer of the Model competition that the models are there to stay once submitted. You will receive full credits for your model. |
