At the Newtes forums they said:

Surely they're not going to integrate Modeller and Layout???
I sure as hell hope not - I'm one of those few people that actually like having the two separate... |

One of the features is: Quote:

Good point.
I wonder at the character setup stuff ... if this is developed in-house or if they've bought in ACS or Orthopaedics? |
Orthopaedics Mark ???
How about some free orthodontics instead (just kiding - I know how much you love going to the dentist). keef |
Yup. I used to love going to the dentist. Probably because my last one had the cutest dental techs around :D
I was of course referring to the Irrational Orthopedics package available from Irrational Number: http://www.irrationalnumber.com/html/Irr_home.htm |

I sure hope they add Edge support...

Only a few more days till Siggraph and we will find out.
|
Kvaalen... when will lightwave8 be available for downloading?
And , are they going to have their own rigid body system, or some plugin (like IMPACT)? Greetings everibody? (anybody from serbia???):D P.S. Sory for my english!!:o |
I dont think there is a solid date for LW8 release I think its slated for 4th quarter this year. As for a ridged body system we wont have more details till after siggraph.
|
Here is a bit more on LW8 and hard bodies. This is a quote from Lee Stranahan on Newtek's board:
LightWave 8 will include improved soft body dynamics and rigid body dynamics. They won't be a light version of anything, but will instead be full and expanded versions of Daisuke Ino's plug-ins such as FX Break. A lot more details, soon - but that's not the big news, really. The big news - or part of it - is that Daisuke Ino is now a full fledged member of the LW Development team. That means that LightWave users will get immediate benefits of robust, working software as well as more innovation and integration down the road. ... LightWave[8] includes the full feature set (and more) of expanded particles, soft bodies, and adds rigid bodies...all from the same author of the current set of tools, and with trunkfuls of upgrades still to come. |
Wooh Cool. I cant wait :)

Yes, that is him.
From what Lee has been saying, he is now a fulltime developer on Lightwave and his plugins like FXbreak are being expanded and integrated into Lightwave. |
Does he have a website?
|
I don't know if he has a site but Dstorm's english site is http://www.dstorm.co.jp/DS_E/index-e.html
|
Sweet.
This is a really positive step forwards for Lightwave development methinks. |
One of the Yahoo groups has just had this URL posted. It's a short avi of some of the new bones features in LW8...

Cool:) It would be cool to see more of modelers enhancements.
|
yeah, and the character-rigging-stuff....
|
Well, the character rigging stuff is Orthopedics from Irrational Number (the developers are now officially part of Newtek's team), so their site may have been a good place to start, but it seems that they've taken it down for the time being...

it will always be 2nd best to maya!
ask mr endorphin |
well, kevin, i'm watching the real-stream from siggraph right now from the LW-booth......we will talk later....:)
they got some neat stuff in LW 8.....:) |
Can anybody tell me , does lightwave |8|,have snap tools??
You knowe what i mean:snap to point, snap to midpoint, snap to center, snap to plane ..and so on. It is very hard to model some things, mechanical and architectural, without good snap tools! And about FXBreak , what are his possibilites (I had demo version , and after thirty minutes..BAAAM!! "straight to recycle Bin"). Thanks to everybody for big pile of informations. Thats all. (sorry for my english). |
LW8 development isn't complete so nobody outside Newtek really knows what all is in it. They haven't made any announcements as to what changes will be in Modeler.
Ino, the writer of FXBreak and several other plug-ins is part of the development team and responsible for a lot of the new dynamics they showed at Siggraph. 3rd party developers are limited to what Newtek gives them in the way of the API. With Ino able to work at the core of LW, he should be able to do a whole lot more. As for snapping, there are a couple things you can do to get something like that now. Set the Grid Snap (Display Options>Units) to fixed and you can snap to any distance you like. Selecting a point or group of points and hitting Ctrl-V will set you set the value for the X,Y, or Z. Searching Flay.com might list some plug-ins that give snapping ability. |
i agree about the snapping. this causes some problems for me was well. It seems people have learned ways around this but i think snapping to a midpoint or something like that would be very helpful!!!! i hope some info about LW8 comes out soon. i can't take it!!! the info that has been released so far makes me want to know more!!!!
