Walk cycler using cycler

hey
i created this mechanical golumn thing. i animated it and created a walk cycle posible of looping. i also used morphs on the leg to bend it and stuff. but i don't know how to use cycler to make the golumn to walk for what ever length i want. this there any good tutorials on how to do this. thanks for your time

I'm not sure I understood what you mean, but do you mean that you made the cycle with the "golumn" staying in place but you want it to move in the direction he is walking?

If so I don't see what this has to do with cycler.

If that is the problem I'll explain how to do it.

hey what i mean was that i made the character walk the the same place but it doesn't cycle, i don't know how to use cycler. and i want to make him walk. well would it help if i sent you the scene? because its kind of strange the way i did it, i used morphs on the legs and everything so if you can help i'll send you the scene file just give me your e-mail.
thanks again for helping sincerely roshan

Oh, I understand.

What you need to do is in the graph editor set the post behavior of the things you want to cycle to repeat.

wow incredible, THANKS MAN, i'm going to use that to the bone. lol
thanks again

First of all I wouldnt use morphs to animate a character. The reason is because:
1. Its a painful way to do it.
2. Morphs are linear which means the legs will shrink instead of bending.
3. Bones are better.

Once you setup bones and create a simple walk cycle all you have to do is apply cyclist to each bone that is being animated.
You can then use a null to control it all so that as you move the null forward the character runs thru its cycle based on its speed.

Yeah, that is another way to do it but for most of my situations I don't like it since when I have a character walk slow or fast I want the movments to be different.

For that I use the motion mixer, you have much more control, you can have the cycle repeat, go slower, faster, you can mix motions, put transitions between motions...

I agree, but I was just answering roshans question.
Where cyclist is good is for quickly animating large groups or crowds like the bugs on Roughnecks. :)

You're right. ;)
So now we have covered 3 ways:

1. Setting the post behavior to repeat
2. Using cyclist
3. Using the Motion Mixer

It's your choice roshan003.

:D

SplineGod 29-01-2003 09:37 PM

Or you can use all three. I dont like using the post behavior option as much as the other two though. :)
