Depends on what you need. Is this for a closeup? I have used saslite for a lawn and had fantastic results.

It still depends on what exactly you need to accomplish. Maybe you need to model individual blades like an elongated flower pedal. Maybe you need to do that and do a particle paste (help me out guys) as if you would for making tree leaves, but constrained to the ground level. Then maybe saslite in the backgoround.

We really need you to describe what you are trying to accomplish. Have any sketches?

You can get pretty good results with Sas even for closeups. The problem with Saslite is that you can only set the density to a max of 300. The full version allows higher density settings. You can get around this by applying multiple instances of Saslite to your object and changing the parameters slightly from instance to instance.

If you want to modeled grass I would highly recommend Pawel Olas's Grass Generator, which you can find here.

Hope this helps.

thanks guys, but I can't seem to get fotorealistic grass with sas-lite

Could you tell me how to model this???(without sas-lite):(

rich_is_bored 30-11-2003 06:00 AM

You need to model a single blade, distort some clones, and then clone the group a couple hundred times.

Then you blend these models in with sas-lite as the scene distances itself from the camera. It's pretty tedious.

Another solution is to use a plugin.
There are a couple for plants and grass here:

Well my recomendation will still be saslite, touch up manually with photoshop for better results. And Remember the spotlight thing if you decide saslite. Good Luck.

HELP FULL HINT!!!!!

TURN OFF ALL CLUMPING
When you use saslite, it automatically turns clumping on a little, when making grass (in my opinion) it looks as far from realistic as it can

When you turn off clumping you wont see throo the grass on to the original plain you created
