Brave first stab at modeling?
this is my first real stab at modeling a car, well, ive tried in the past but this is the first time i tried where it came out in the shape of a car.
if you can guess what kind of car it is you win (actually it will just make me feel better) i know its really rough, and i should probably start over because of all the flaws, but im quite impressed with myself and i think im starting to get the hang of it. be nice, but any help is very much needed http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...f/fa631e46.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...d/fa631e43.jpg my splines are very messy/sloppy, can anyone suggest how to avoid welding 3 pts together and creating a bunch of triangles (which seems to be my main problem with keeping the lines smooth) please share your tips. and i havent really gone over it with a fine toothed comb to make it perfect, cause its 5am, but i wanted to get a start on it tonite. total time for what you see in thoes pictures = 5-6 hours |
cool :D

Well Turbo, I admire your bravery. You look like you need the McLaren tute, but you probably already know that.
There are two things that I have learned from it thus far that I think would make an impact on your model. 1. like for the back where it is lumpy, Philip would select a row of points that are supposed to gently arch, then pull them into a straight line with the stretch tool (a new concept for me) then shape them out with the shear tool (setting that blue capture area around them. Makes impeccably smooth adjustments to points. 2. Just tweaking man. Being lazy with splines just hurts in the long run. Its hard to face, but its a tough world. :) Tweak tweak tweak. Put a high specularity on your suface you you can see flaws in the shape easier. Anyway, I hope something I said was useful. Good luck. ;) |

Yea, dont get too ahead of yourself ;) Keep to the modelling...

ive decided to redo most of the car, i got too excited and wanted to see more or less a finished product, so i modeled it a bit sloppy, so im going to do it over and do it the right way

cool ferrari !
... i think its a ferrari ? am i right ? :) |
i reconise the shape but i cannot say what car it is....anyway i've almost finished my first car and as you are...i'm very impressed with myself too :) what you need to do is to look at what you've done and say: man i can do better !
post a wire of your car..it seems that there are lots of misplaced points |

i spent a few more minutes on it, i actually started from scratch once i figured out how to use "weights" HAHAH
oh well, this is my second stab at it, and its still a long way from done, whatcha think so far? is it easier to tell what kind of car it is now? |
.

Heh - I couldn't tell one type of car from another normally anyway! But there are still a few parts of the car that look a bit crumpled. Fortunately there are quite a few good car tutorials around the place which might have been previously mentioned. Unknown Limit who has done a car WIP here has done one:

don't get used to subpatch weights ! not good :)
at least when modelling a car....you have to work on only one side and always mirror...whatever it can be done without and the result is better ! |
Yep, Morghen is right. A few weights here and there can be a great help but the majority of the time you want to stay away from them.
Keep it up thoug, it is looking better. :) |
looks like im going to be doing this ferrari over again, thanx for the tutorial, maybe ill get it right this time
