City park scene

I'm working on a park for a scene with my little alien Bob over there on the left. I still need to add some trees and streets in the background, but this is what I have so far. You can't see it in this shot, but there is a moon and a cast iron sign at the enterance of the park. Any comments welcome. Thanks.

The lights don't seem natural. There is a really nice streetlamp in the downloads section.... that may help you just to see it. You need the surfaces to have a restricting effect on the glow, which I think can be done in light properties.

Otherwise it looks like a real good start. :)

Hmm, lighting a bit more will be a good idea i agree.

(My personal idea will be,,,, volumetric lighting, some fog and poof you have a dark side to that park)... Hehehe.

Good Luck

take away some of the streaks on your lens flare, and if the lights point down, there would be no flare from above.

Thanks for the comments. I have started to re-do the lamp post in more of a decorative style. Leovenous, I looked at the download you mentioned. I agree that the lamp needed more pizzaz. I am also going to play with the fog idea. See what I can come up with. I hope to have an update here in the next few days when I have time to play with everything.

It's been awhile since I have been able to work on this, but I finally found some time and made some quick updates. These are nowhere near finished, but here is what I have. Comments are very welcome.

Much better. A clear step in the right direction.

you have to some A.A. !
looks good.

YES!! AA will make a Drastic difference in your picture.

I really like the far off shot, looks almost complete,

Some trees would also help.

BarkingTreefrog 17-01-2004 01:25 AM

Thanks guys.

I haven't added any AA yet. My computer is way to slow right now. I didn't want to sit for 10 minutes just to see if the placement was where I wanted it. I just wanted to see what these test renders would look like.
Also, the trees are in progress. Those things are tough to model. :)

Try using a tree generation plugin (such as the Tree designer lscript up on this site). Also, you might want to check out Phil's Sunset tutorial as this explains a simple technique for creating trees:

Thanks Mark, I'll check it out.

Some more addtions to the park. I added a few trees and placed a skytracer image behind. I still need to add a few buildings to fill the rest of the street, but I think I am close to done. What do you all thinik?
