new l'waver

Hi everyone, i've been using 3d max for the last 4 years and decided to switch to lw. I'm doing quite a bit of architectural visualisation, so i'm wondering if anyone on the board is doing similar stuff. Just like to hear abit about working with lw in this regard.

btw, bought Inside LW today. Will dig into it very soon! Wish me luck!!

Hi and welcome pygoh, Ive never been doing and architectural viz myself but I sure have seen some very impressive stuff coming from LW.

Good Luck and Im looking forward to seeing your work ones you get started.

Welcome pygoh!

Actually I started out with architectural visualizations due to my architectural background. I made my first ones with Blender in the old days :D

LightWave is extremely well suited for arch. extreriors; with a gradient backdrop or a skytracer image and radiosity you can achieve some great results with reasonable render times...

Ante (also a member on this board) is pretty much specialized in architectural viz with LW...

I came from an architectural background as well. But moved to cg instead. Had a few years of 3d max behind me but decided to lw b'cos of lower cost and better community.

So hope you guys (or gals) don't mind me asking lots of questions. btw is there some sort of a conversion list for max to lw?

thanx.

unfortunately there's no such list, at least not that I know of...

but of course you're welcome to ask as many questions as you may have. :D

hey pygoh :)

Here's a thread on CGTalk:
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21744

It's a thread discussing tips and tricks for Max users learning LW. I hope that helps.

Regards,
Erwin

Thanx Erwin. that's very useful. Still finding my way around the UI in lw.

Thanx.

hi there pygoh!
hmmm... well, actually i was making some architecture visualisations in the past. i must say that Cinema4D is much better for this kind of job. why? because of her non linear modelling capabilities... + faster rendering which is important when rendering some big cad movies... presentations...

but i still love lw ;)

I love the Inside LW book. As a newbie, I've found this book very helpful.

If you haven't already, you may want to check out "Lightwave Applied". It has a dedicated section on creating architectural pieces.

Good luck.
