Hologram Effect.

Okay, I am very new to LightWave (Beginner) so go easy on me lol.. Know that I don't sleep and I am motivated by you guys and girls.. Big ups to everybody first of all.

This is what I am trying to do. I am in the process of creating the inside of a high tech building (just a small part i.e hall way) On the floor of the building I would like to place like a circular object on the floor that can open up creating this hole or portal if you want to call it that. From this hole I would like a beam of light to burst out of it towards the ceiling i.e like a hologram. At the top of the hologram light I want text to be dispayed in the same circular pattern.

Please I hope I did not loose anyone. I hope it can be done with LightWave.

Please point me to a tute or in the right direction or please educate me on how I could accomplish that.

Thank a million guys.

PS let me know what pluggins I may need for this as well.

Gonna run to Starbucks be right back

Im pretty sure Hypervoxels of some sort would come in handy....as for plugins...i don't know,
I haven't used any plugins because i can't seem to make them work, so i gave up and have been modeling without them...

Thank R4s1n
, I was thinking those would come in to play. It is matter of approaching it then I guess.. Please forward any more thaughts you may have.

Thanks again

for the opening of the ball i think Morphs would be a good approach,
i believe that's all i can think of at this hour of the night

Hmm, hi there,,, here is my thought on it,,, Opening of the ball do it with Morphs like R4s1n suggested, As for the beam of light, try volumetric lighting, either a point light or spot light with the volumetric options,, use a texture on it, like the turbulance or crolosis...(sorry if i misspled). As for the text,, i am thinking it will be kind of like floating and spinning,, well model it first and then set the dissolve to 100 and then when the volumetric lighting, you should envelop some of the options to get the bursting out part, then set the text to slowly come to 0, You might want to use tranlucency on the object and do other stuff to the texture to get the look of it right.
Hope that helps,
Kumar

Hologram Effect

Morphs, If I am to use morphs I am assuming I would animate it with Key fram 0 showing the door closed and say at keyframe 25 showing the door open? Will lightwave apply motion tweening for the in between frames?

Here is a perfect example of what I am talking about..
got to this web site: http://www.fantasy-interactive.com/x...rce_popup.html

There is like a gate that opens with like a glow of green light emitting from it. Then when you choose another option the gate closes. You can see the gate actually closing.

Is that what you mean when you mentioned morphs?

Thank you guys a bunch.

I appreciate all the inputs. One day I will be helping beginners like myself.

Hmm,,, i think you use flash,,,heheh oh well. You can key frame the morphs at frame 25 with 100% but remember to keyframe at 0 with 0% Morphs i find a bit funny but the rest should be automatic in creating the 'in between frames'... By clicking on the key button on the morphmixer. So you will need the base object to be closed... A morph of the objected opened. Then go into layout,,, add the morphmixer from the object properties,,, and you are good to go. As for the greenish lighting,,, use about say 5 point lights with volumetric options and set the color to green,,,, Hmm, i am tempted to take some time off the comp and try this. Post your progress and i am sure there will be more help. ;)

For a complex object opening,,, you will need more morphs... One that is rotated and the other opened... You will see that morphs sometimes is not all that accurate, you will need to mix them to get a nice smooth motion.

Well i decided to just play around,,, so as what i said for your effect. I whiped up somethin for you to see, its in DIVX. Sorry for modelling,,,, was kind of in a rush,,, so did not really bother,,, but i am sure ,,, you know what you want.. Main things to note are the point light, with volumetric option,,, color set to green, opacity, set to 20,,,play around and you will find what you want... Intensity set to 250% textured, with subtractive mode,,, Turbulence.... Just play around with Position if you want it to move like what i did. I did it on the graph editor... Well guess i can go on explaning,,,, but guess i will attach the object and scene for you to see what it did.

The Scene File

Here is the scene file... I used the Graph editor for the glow animation,,,, easier that way and a great tool.... Not easy at first,,, i know. ;) By the way,,, there is only one morph... Opened.... the rotation,,, i did in layout... and i put a clone of the dome,,, to fill in the seams...... I know,,,, but hey its done in 15 minutes,,, so ;)

Kumar, thanks a lot. What you did helped out in a big way. I will post what I have for you to check out. I appreciate it dude. Thanks again.

Great job in 15 minutes WOW...

It will take me about 3 hours, so hang tight.. lol

Great Job

No problem,,,, it was interesting idea anyway. Hmm,,, got me thinking of QuickTime VR and weather i can mimik this in that.... hehehe well post your updates... Love to see the progress.

Cheers,
Kumar
