Formula 1: 2004 BMW Williams FW26 (Gallery Submission)
This car is made for the PC F1 game, F1-Challenge.
The car is therefore low-poly and the tyres (which are made by me and not from the game) are high poly. Car body is around 3,600 polys and with all tyres and wheels totals around 20,000. This is the car Ralph Schumacher and Juan-Pablo Montoya will be driving in the upcoming season. http://www.racingrenders.com/picture...s04/FW26-1.jpg http://www.racingrenders.com/picture...s04/FW26-2.jpg http://www.racingrenders.com/picture...s04/FW26-3.jpg |
While the renders look nice enough, I really still have trouble seeing the point. You have all the proportional guidelines with the models already, why not bite the bullet and learn modeller (if you don't know already that is) and build a good hi-def model? Rendering realtime models is slightly lost on me as low poly models of this nature only really look good when in motion and this hiding any poly shortcomings they have.
Go on, you know you want to, build a hi-def of this car, and then render it like these :) Cheers! |
I dont know what you mean by realtime models.
You say they only look good in motion ? I think my renders of these game cars prove otherwise. As for there being a point, does there really need to be one ? I am involved in the sim-racing community and to that end the point is, and always has been to illustrate how good actual untouched game models can look when rendered. Its not a question of me modelling my own F1 car or any car. Ive been in the sim-racing community for a long long time and over that period Ive seend us come from the ZX-Spectrum's Pole Position game to what we have today. Thanks to the power of todays computers we can afford higher detailed models and my renders are the to show how good the models we have in todays games really are. They will surely only get better with time. Learning to model one myself is another story altogether. Thats a totally seperate issue. There are many finished renders in the LW forums today that use already available models. Does your argument apply to them also ? Must finished renders contain your own models too ? Some people might be great and rendering but not so good at modelling and vice versa. For myself, Ive followed Philips McLaren tutorial but due to the length of times in the updates Ive forgotten most of it. Ive tried Lewis's tutorial and got stuck some way through it and given up. Yes I could find the time and apply myself to modelling a car but I need to be geared up for it and be able to commit myself to it. Up to now that hasn't happened. Ive been using LW on and off now since V3.0 so it could be argued that I should know Modeler like the back of my hand. In fact that isnt the case. I can model, yes. But I dont feel Im in a position to tacked an entire car yet. I want to and one day I hope I`ll get round to it. I`d love to churn out stuff like Lewis does. But until that day arrives I am quite content to take the models from these games and make them look as realistic as possible just for the viewing pleasure of those that might be interested. Whether there is a point to it or not, is not an issue for me. Its something I like to do. |
Great render man!! I dont see why It couldnt be added to the gallery since proper credits are given to the modellers.
accepted by me :) ( one more needed ) |
This is beutiful man....great work :)
|
Digi - I'm with you.
Whilst it would be nice to see a really hi-def render of this in the Gallery, these renders are all pretty beautiful as they stand, and as F1Racer points out, they just go to prove how good a low poly model really can look. (Seconded) |
Thanks guys. Thats much appreciated. :)

I personally prefer to see work created entirely by the artist. I used to do the same when I started out with LW (render other peoples models, but now I won't do it myself).
Cheers! |
Some of us are not great modellers and have little choice at present.

Yeah man, re conversation on ICQ (cool), this comment wasn't meant in quite so much of an ass-hat way as it seems to have sounded.
Cheers! |
