music synchronising
 

Anyone hear have any experience with synchronising music to animations? Is there any way to import audio into Layout so that when animating, choreographing is made easier? I've managed to do it with some mixed results - basically I create an animation piece independently, then render and export into Premiere and work around that - which obviously is not the way to go when you want something that 'flows'.

I posted a question similar to this a while ago and i didn't get any response. I was looking for a way to create a room with some objects that emit sound and when you move around the room, the sound gets further away or closer depending on where you are.

Since then I've found that lightwave has pretty awful audio support, i dunno if lightwave 8 will help this, I haven't heard anything about it if it does.

The only audio option i've found in lightwave is in the scene editor in Layout (ctrl+F1), you may have already found this. It lets you load in some audio and it appears on the timeline, you *might* be able to do some synching this way, but its pretty jerky to use. For synching up audio i use magpie pro, it allows you to load in an audio file and it breaks everything down into frames that should sync exactly with your anim if the frame rate is set the same in both progs.

That sounds like pretty specialised stuff, no wonder you got no response!

Its strange, I never gave thought to the audio side of things until now, and then suddenly you realise that its actually quite important.

Maybe we're looking at the wrong software altogether?! No, I'm sure theres a way out of this.

Have you any experience with a program called After Effects? I've heard people use this to make music videos so it must have audio support of some kind. I know Premiere has fade in/ fade out tabs for audio tracks, so if you were making a video you would have to manually adjust these to give the effect you're after.

I've seen after effects before, but i've never used it. I heard of plugin called shockwave (not web shockwave) that might be able to do what i'm after, but i don't think its out yet. ah well, i'll have to wait i think. :)
