Applogies

Appologies for the last post, i'll restrict mentioning pricing etc. when i mention K3D.

To be honest i'm more interested in what people think of the app and what they would like to see added to it as features etc.

Cheers,

Kev

But if its for viewing 3D objects then all you have to do is open Lightwave and open the object.

I agree with Johnny,,, but if there is somekind of a preview or thumbnail attached with the file so that allows you to preview in windows like a picture that will surely be a hit.

Just thought people reading should know,,,happen to pass by another simmiliar product... Free!

:) But that's the problem isn't it. You have to open up Lightwave, go through a set of menus and then navigate round the explorer Open File dialog to find your object, if you have several with similar names then you won't even be sure it's the right one until it's opened.

The idea with K3D is to give you a very fast way of viewing any objects on your filesystem. You can double-click a .lwo file anywhere in Explorer to see it immediately in K3D, then you can use the Page Up/Down keys to browse other files in the same directoy. It's instant feedback like this that people want (like FPrime!), I know how annoying i find it having to load modeller up everytime i want to see an object.

Yes i'm looking into doing something like that.

Yep and it's pants. Sorry but it is. Try loading a few objects in it then try a few in K3D, you'll soon see the difference.

Well,,, the obvious thing i can see is that its free... even though its old or has not much features or optimized for LW 7.5  Glad to know that you are looking into the tumbnail thing.... Hope this attaches with the file and not have your program do it on the fly. Me personally,,,, dont think its really a useful program to me,,, even though i like have up to 10 or more revisions of an object in different files. I still prefer to load it in LW,,, as i know i want to do something with it,,, rather that look at it,,,, who knows,,,, maybe Newtek might develop their load menu to incorperate a thumbnail feature.... Like how photoshop has... Now thats something i like to have Hehe Just a few thoughts from me,,,

Cheers and Good Luck

Cheers for the comments. I can understand it won't be for everyone, i wrote it for me for than anything :) I thought i'd have a go at selling it, if it doesn't turn out to be useful for people then that's fair enough. Hopefully if i add the right features then it will be and people will want it... Yes i find the lack of simple "windows" features in Lightwave, like drag-and-drop, double-click to open a file etc. very annoying which is why i wrote it. I understand why Newtek went for a "generic" approach with a custom UI toolkit, in that they have to support the UI's on more than one OS, but i find those missing features really slow my work cycle.

Cheers,

Kev

Hi,

A new version of K3D has been released. It now supports a unique feature for Lightwave object viewers, sub-patch support!

Check out screenshots of the new feature, with a downloadable demo version here:

Enjoy!
