Hai Everyone,

As U all can see, I'm a real rookie and the only one in my social environment who's a 3D fan. Could you please help me with some critics.

My dream is to produce a film someday (probably in a next life), so I need to become real handy with all the controls.
I've admired your work 4 quite some time and I know I really have to spend years before can make things like you.

Well, enough of the intro:

Meet Stanley.

Difficult to crit unless we know what you're properly aiming for - if its a proper human head model you are after, then you're going to have to look again at the proportions. If its a cartoony style you're after then its looking pretty good but a bit naked without any ears.

Thanx,

It is ment cartoonlike, I'll work on the ears.

I thought it were - but sometimes it can be difficult to tell - my first head efforts looked very cartoony despite me trying for realistic :)

Critique of cartoons for me is very tricky as it all depends on the cartoonist's style. For instance, I could say that the lips from the side view look a bit square but that might be what you were aiming for in the first place.

i think you did this one pretty good!!! but even for a cartoony character the lower lip looks a little strange. maybe move some vertexes/points to let it look like better!!!

hope to see more from you to see how you are evolving!!!

( btw: i see you also come from the netherlands!! :) )

Kids are in bed, I've had little time to edit. But, here's Stanley with ears and a more rounded lip. These are the kind of critics I was hoping for, thx guys!
BTW this is my first time making ears anyways, so if you find the time pls keep up the critics.

Stanley is not to be in any short. He's really the start of my modeling cartoon adventure. I'm trying to become familiar with all the moddeling controls. Upto now I've only been working with Smoothshift, Bevel and the regulars (turn/move/etc.)
How do you guys start with a head (realistic or not) ? Do you use Boxes/Balls, or do you start from scratch with just points & poly's?

Forgive my amaturism.

Nice to see I'm not the only geek using LW in Holland.

it realy looks better now with ears and a rounder lip!!!
i dont like box modeling so i usually use the point and poly technique ( how do you call this modeling style??? ) when moddeling a head/character!!!!

Fallenswordsman 09-05-2004 06:53 PM

I think the method used to model heads is really an individual decision. Some people swear blind by box modelling whilst others will construct heads point by point. If you look in the Modelling forum, I've laid out the method I use to construct lips and that's done using a point by point approach. Its best to try each approach so you figure out which is most suitable for you. Peter Duncan's creature feature tutorial is a nice introduction to box modelling - the first part of which is available free from this site. If you haven't done so already, I would encourage you to have a look at it.

This is a nice little character though. I think the nose is a little too sharp at the moment as are the eyebrow ridges plus you seem to have some folded area beneath the eyes which you might want to smooth out a bit, but overall he isn't looking too bad.

Thanx 4 your time guys, really appreci8 it! I'll see what I can come up with next time.
