Vray for LW!! Not quite, read on ...

Vray has gone Standalone and perhaps we can get support for LW!! Currently, there is geometry exports for 3DS Max, and Maya. I've written in asking about Lightwave, so perhaps if this sort of thing is appealing I suggest you write in as well.

Hmm interesting,,, but guess you cant run from max for too long,,, will catch up with ya sooner or later... so a plugin is a better choice......... If you are talking about renderers..... then renderman will be a better choice... and there plugins and versions of renderman out there... that work with LW,,, although i never tried any myself,,,, Hmm,,, maybe i should...

Hehehe But Vray is a good renderer... especially for interior or so i heard....

Cheers,
Kumar

Vray's radiosity (GI) is stellar. Really fast too. I've used it on max 3.1

kumar 27-07-2004 12:51 AM

Hmm,,, what about the free version they have on their site,,, is there any restrictions or speed issues,,,,?

duderender 27-07-2004 01:37 AM

works with max only, as a plugin. The radiosity is fast, in fact it puts lightwave's to shame.

kumar 29-07-2004 02:53 AM

Hmm,,, ok,,, i was thinking they had some watermark or something,,, since its free to download... Maybe Fprime can compete with Vray on the radiosity part...

duderender 29-07-2004 02:56 AM

INteresting, I never thought to compete them.

Thing is, Vray doesn't have the limitations fprime does.

To give you an idea, i rendered a 1600x1200 with 2 bounces in Vray, took 12min to render.

same seen in LW, was running for an hour and wasn't done.

kumar 29-07-2004 03:38 PM

Hmm,,, i agree that the default renderer in LW is slow in the rad part.... But Fprime does amazing stuff... i tested it and i was like fast............... but i never tried a 1600x1200 one... but i did try more than 2 bounces... and worked quite fine... say about 15 or so miniutes...

duderender 29-07-2004 03:42 PM

that's great! I am waiting for fprime to do shaders and then it will be useful

kumar 30-07-2004 02:01 AM

Under the shaders... just add the fprime,,, and poof your proced... textures are rendered out...

duderender 30-07-2004 02:07 AM

That's not what I mean.

If I use other shaders, like gmil or other 3rd party shaders fprime currently will not render them.

kumar 30-07-2004 10:51 AM

Oh,,, ok... :)
