more POWER!!!
i was just wondering if there's any way to devote more cpu power or RAM to lightwave. I don't really have much running in my background etc. except for Norton Anti-virus & Firewall. I feel that LW doesn't use much of the stuff that i have on my computer. I seems choppy for most of my models and it's very annoying! I have a little over 1 gig of memory with and AMD ath. 128 mb videocard, but still...
Any suggestions? |
Well the Ram is fine. But what Ghz is your CPU? and is it the barton core AMD? I had 1 gig of ram with an AMD 2800 Barton
with an Nvidia 128mb video card. And it worked out fine with Lightwave. But when I switched over to Intel 2.8GHz I noticed a big increase in speed over the AMD. Keep in mind only in my 3D Apps though. I'm not to sure about the newer 64bit AMDs though.. I still would stick with Intel when it comes to 3D Modeling. I uses me AMD system for all my gaming now. and Intel for my 3D and Graphic stuff. Sir_Pro_View Greg |
Here's some of the main specs.:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ i think its 2.0 ghz... 1024 DDR SDRAM NVida 128 videocard It's all fine, but i also have LAN for 4 computers in my house, and this one is the hub or main computer. maybe that somehow slows it down... anything could be possible... |
Zeeman,
If you think something is wrong with your system take a test and compare. In some tasks, like textures AMD seems better. I suppose Intel is better when HT procs are used and AMD XPs are equal to non HT Intels, also look at the price tags when you compare. I haven't run this yet but probably will---> http://www.blanos.com/benchmark/index.html Scenes are at ProgramFiles\LW \Content\Classic Content\Benchmark\ Post some your result if you want and I will post mine with XP 2500 plus at 1833Mhz *if I remember default speed right. |
Bear in mind also that Lightwave is specifically optimised for Intel CPUs. As far as I know there aren't any optimisations coded in for running under an AMD architecture, so your performance will always be better running a Pentium CPU
