My first atempt to model a human head.
i know the ear is not right yet....i'm still working on it...but other than that..do you guys see any mistakes ? i'm interested in critique |
Looks good for a first try. One thing that i would critique you on is the lips. They are too pointy, they should be rounded with a bit more volume to them.

Hey man... looks cool to me. Heres a few things I think you need to do... 1. Looks like subdivisions to me, if this is the case then you might want to turn up your render level in layout, this should get rid of that weird stair shaped shadow transition running up and down the face. 2. The shoulders start too early from the neck, as does the skull. I drew an idea of what I think would look better, you get the idea. 3. He doesnt seem to have a brow. A little shape in this area will make a difference. 4. The ear itself seems to be disconnected from the head. Look in the mirror... the human ear should transition into the face smoothly and not look like its pasted on ( I think you said you were still working on the ears though, so you might have just not gotten to this) Finally, I just think that the face itself needs a little more texture. Some more sunken in areas or buldges here and there to signify the muscles and bone structure will add to the realism. the mouth looks cool but i agree that it need to be filled out a little to make it not quite as sharp and thin. All in all it is good... looks a hell of a lot better than most of my first heads. I like the Matrix feel I get from it, cold and harsh... nice. Just tweak a few things and it will be perfect. Hope that helps, later.

thew neck is still not right... looks good otherwise though. You need to have a good understanding of how the neck muscles work in order to get the model looking correct. Either get an anatomy book (if you are going to be making ppl you have to have one... learn as much of it as you can and always have it handy) or just go on google and search for the specific muscle group and look up images. Ive attached a quick sketch of how the neck needs to be shaped in order to give this guy some muscle structure. The way it is now he looks frail....

look at the muscles. See how they wrap around to the front from the back and make a v shape under the neck. the back muscles form into the back of the neck. the bottom of the skull is high in the back for the most part. Just keep studying pics like these. Work on the neck a little and I think the model will be complete for the head part. Looks a little like hitman. I was just playing that tonight. Later. Hope this helps.
