making a screw
 
anyone has an idea how to make a screw? I'm very eager to know how you can create that wire in the metal (or how do u call it) ...

Make a disc or whatever shape you want, and use lathe and hit n to bring up the numeric panel and if your lathing it into the x and z planes, add y in to make it go down, and then mess with the settings to get it looking like a screw.

I am trying to make a spring, like a set of shocks, and I cannot get the lathe to produce polygons, all it makes for me is points. I am sure that I am doing something stupid, but for all intensive purposes I cannot get it to work.

Ok, i can remember an old tutorial i saw, the guy did a cylinder with enough segments, then created a 3 point poly and then a spline running around the cylinder, then rail extrude the poly to get the thread. The use that to boolean your threads into the screw.

Although there is bound to be loads of other ways. This is a fast way.

Yes you can. I used this technique to make a fuse for my bob-omb. You would just have to apply a texture or make a high poly model
