Small scout ship

Hi everybody. I'm new here. Just to get some back round out, I've only been working with lightwave for about two months. I'm currently involved in a game project with a friend of mine who is a briliant coder. This is a small ship I made for our game. It won't have any guns or anything. It's mostly for scouting areas and getting out of your blowing up ship. We are also gonna be able to load it up with explosives and remotely kamikaze it! thats gonna be something. I look forward to meeting you guys and really getting better at lightwave. Ok, heres the picture now. It looks like it needs more. Comments please!

It doesn't show all the detail but I didn't know if I should post more pictures than that.

Welcome to SLW! The picture never showed up? :alien:

How about now? It should have worked before. I usually image it from photobucket.

Looks like a very good job!
It was me  . I changed preferences to show only some images :ermm:. So my bad for making you post twice.

r4s1n, thanks any comments? It seems like it needs something. There are some geometry errors. I need to fix them. But I really think it needs something more. I tried adding some kind of hull plating but it really didn't look good. Maybe I just did it wrong. Anyway, I added some more pictures to show some more detail.

Tell me if you can't see these pictures.

I guess i couldn't really see much from the 1st image. But from the other images i can see some creasing that could be helped with a few more cuts. Can you post a few wire shots? That usually shows what the problem is.
Yea i can see the images :D

OK, here are some wire frame shots. I did them in layout since they were the easiest to screen capture. I honestly have a hard time fixing those errors you saw. Also, in layout I get a poly in the back of the ship that I can actaully see through but when I render it comes out fine. I don't know why that is. Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to SLW,
as it stands it doesn't look like a game model, the ship looks a bit to high poly, try reducing the amount that may fix some of your errors, good luck.

the ship as you saw it was ~3500 polygons. Too many for such a simple design I guess. I spent one hour trying to reduce the polycount and it ended up that I was making polygons with greater than 4 vertices. I'm doing it wrong. dae, do you know how to reduce the polycount and still keep the same shape and 4 vertice and less polygons?

Also, as a side note. We are going to try to use normal maps so even if it is high it might be ok. But I still don't know how to reduce the polygons manually and still keep the surface geometry intact and keep 4 point polygons going. Then again, I might not know what I'm talking about so if not then please correct me.

you could use qemloss tool, not to sure how good it will work, also one more thing is that model subpatch or has it been frozen, from what I know about games they cant use subpatch models, dont worry to much about N-gons (five sided polys) as game engines convert the ploys to tri's, just make sure you dont have to many, you could always model using tris.

I was using the gemloss tool...it was good for some things like the spot light on the head. But for the bigger geometry It really digs your model out. I guess Ill just try it with n-gons and ask my coder to see if it works. You are right though it did have a lot of polygons for a smaller ship. I have some plans to make a see through engine on the inside (i explained it horribly). I'm gonna try it out soon
Thanks again for all the help!
