House for Animation...

here is a house I am working on for an animation that Im going to be putting together. The exterior is not 100% finished but I want to do some work on the interior for now as a change of pace. I have a great idea for a short story and I want to realize it. Ill post updates soon.

Here are some wires... not to exciting, rather low poly. C+C welcome... I know the logs on the ends of the house seem a little too round, I will take care of that later.

Hmmm.. Im having a bit of difficulty. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Im working on the interior of the house now. What I did was just used the house you see above and just deleted everything from the outside and Im going to build the interior right inside the original model. This should work out fine since the inside of a log cabin is the same as the outside, meaning you can see the same wood and textures. The problem Im having is when I zoom into the inside of the house the system wont let me look around like i normally can and the model will end up dissapearing if I go way to far in. How can I resize the modeler workspace like I can in the layout? I want all the textures to remain the same. Resizing and retexturing everything would be a hassle. Please give me some advice as I have no idea what to do. Thanks!! -Jesse |
Your house looks very good. although the roof is a little bit flat, and i think the overall image is to dark. For your next renders i suggest you brighten it up a bit, so we can see it al better.

not sure about your problem I think if you change the grid size in the units part of modellers display options it might be the same effect as layout other than that I havent come across this problem luckily. |
OK.... heres the thing.
As far as I can tell modeler isnt set up to make it possible to model something like this house or a CAR for instance and then subsequently model the interior. If you have an object like a car... you can model the exterior all day and night and everything works fine, but when you go in to model the INterior things dont work, unless Im doing something wrong. I want to somehow get the view to be at the 0,0,0 mark on the grid so I can see the object from inside but I cant get that to happen. All I seem to be able to do is zoom in (to get the view inside) and when you do that the model eventually starts to dissappear for some reason, also the view controls are skittish when you zoom in like that. Someone please tell me what Im doing wrong or what Im NOT doing, which is probably the case. Thanks a lot. -Jesse |
I figured out that as soon the camera in modeler is going further then the middle of the object. things are starting to dissapear. I always had ( and still have ) that problem to.
hope their is an answer to it. maybe you can make a simply cube as big as your house, past it in another layer, open a clean layer and set the cube-layer in the background. then you can start making the interior, without things starting to dissapear. are you also could set the house-layer in the background. well just a tip. i don't know how you should do it another way. |
I really dont know how to do what your asking but the only way I guess I can help is by tlling you how I do things.
If its a car or anything else I use an image in the background to keep my measurements right and build around that, if its a car then I do the interior first, if a house or living space interior second ( obviously to give it a more lived look. The only thing i can really suggest is that you make your maps double sided, then when you go inside the object you can see the walls now the building will cut but thats because your movving through the object, what you can do however is make your building bigger then when its complete select all the layers and resize them back to the original size ( dont think that will help but I guess its worth a try). Hope something helped there, i think what you want is to centralize the modeller camera so you can spin in 360 degrees, right? Well I hope there is someone that can help you. Soz Simple |

As far as I can tell, modeler's camera is strictly an outside-in camera, so you can't centre it like you want (i may be wrong, however). I would just stick to using the orthographic viewports to model the interior - at least thats how i do mine. Sorry i couldnt be more help |
thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. Man I cant be lieve Ive never run into this problem before. The main part of the story (and the most important modeling) will be inside the house. I just wanted to be able to use the existing geometry so i wouldnt have to start from scratch on the inside but I guess Im going to have to as it would be nearly impossible to model it from the outside in. Im going to have to start over and buikld around the camera. unless anyone else has a solution. Thanks again!

What you've got looks great ! you didn't mention how you modelled the logs, . therin may lie the problem. I would normally just select the one wall and hide it so you could focus on the interior. but you could copy into another layer and flip polys to get your interior and try scaling down just a hair and go from there. Just a suggestion!!

Ive figured out how to do it. You are correct in that the way the room is built is causing the hang up. What I ended up doing is deleting the polys that wont be seen from the inside. The logs were whole logs so the interior view of them is still in tact and without the outer polys I can see inside. For once I would like modeler to behave more like Maya in that you could model with the same views as layout. Either way, Im getting the interior done and its looking nice. Lots of details to create (lots). Thanks again for the input and I hope to eventually be able to get the animation posted for everyonw to see. Later. (No picture updates at this time) |

Cant you just select the points/poly's you want and use the shortcut to centre the view on them..? Thats what I used to do when things started to disappear cause I was zoomed in too much. Not been using lightwave recently so cant remember the shortcut off the top of my head Exar |
